FTL mock ?

1. One advance of skill Unarmed is called "Faster than light"
2. In some puzzless player must move extremly fast

(I will stop play when find third proof! :D )

Indeed, the orignal game was going to be DM2000 way back in the day (almost ten years ago???) It's evolved way passed that, but there's still acknowledgements and nods in that direction :)

My oldest son downloaded Grimrock from STEAM (he was curious, since I mentioned it to him).
Since we've played Darksiders II, as well as a few others, I figured Grimrock would be easy to get up and running.
Sadly, it doesn't play. Every other game we've downloaded works with no problem (once I did all the updates on the video card).

You know, I have a vague recollection of having trouble with this one myself. Might be wrong, and can't remember what the problem was, but maybe reading back through this thread will be of some help? Other people might have had problems which might have been resolved via this forum...

@MasterWuuf - I had maybe the same problem when I finally broke and downloaded it last week!

It was resolved by following the instructions in this link. But in summary, manually run secondary installers required by this game:
  • ...\Steamapps\Common\legend of grimrock\vcredist\vcredist_x86.exe
  • ...\Steamapps\Common\legend of grimrock\DirectX\DXSetup.exe

Yep, I got it too on steam and it won't run without using the above link in the previous post and running those 2 files!

Must be a new year thing, because I just got LoG too. No scripting problems though, it ran fine from steam.

It really reminds me of exploring DM back in the day, so I am really enjoying it. Recommend for anyone else on the forum who is still holding out!

New Year or Steam sale thing I imagine :D

I did not get it on sale (though 14.99 is really cheap anyway for such a good game).

I will look forward to the ending - a rival to trying to figure out how to fuse/fluxcage Chaos?

I'll definitely be getting it soon. Right now I'm just waiting for money issues to clear up, which will be very soon. This is definitely one of the first new games in a few years that I've really gotten excited about. The last one is Civ 5, but it won't work on my computer anyways so it'll just have to wait until I can afford a new one. Hopefully LoG won't have that issue because I'd hate having to wait for another 5-6 months or more before I could give it a try.

LoG was quite slow on my laptop, I had to turn down some of the effects to get a proper gaming speed. It still looks great though.

That's the fun thing of course, even with things turned down way down it's still graphically superior to DM :D

I figured out my problems with running Grimrock.
I peeked around but may have missed any helps with character choices.

In DM, character choice is fun but not all that important, as far as winning the game,
or even that much difficulty getting along within the game.
(well, unless you figure getting someone with a flask, I suppose)

Any suggestions about the best choice of characters for 'first-time' gameplay on Grimrock?

I think the default party is the way to go - I'm sure there is one, right?

If not, go mionotaur fighter, human rogue, and a fire and an ice mage of whatever race.

I daresay the grimlock forums offer more advice, but probably for optimal parties :)

I play with default party, normal mode, old school : fighters are good, especially the minotaure. The rogue woman is very weak at the beginning, but she's very cool when boosting assassination and daggers. Mage is better with ice spells.

I like the poison cloud. It looks good and seems to last quite awhile, even when just learned.

Have quite a few people finished this game?
I'm so busy lately that I'm limited in the time necessary to really enjoy playing right now.

The healing stones/crysals/whatever is an interesting feature.

Yep, finished it with a default party at least. I think I did a second playthrough with a different character set, don't recall if I finished it or not...

And wow, nice hot off the presses news! Hadn't checked anywhere else yet, so this is the first I heard of it. I trust these guys to come up with something really cool :)

My problem as well... Or it's due to my limited concentration with my advanced age

Hi there, i think this may be interesting for any DM/CsB fan out there!
If you didn´t notice it already:
Since december´2012 i am working on a Dungeon Master/CsB wallset for Legend of Grimrock.
After 3 months of heavy work - really TONS of work - i can tell you it´s now near basic completion!

Included now:
- basic doors (portcullis, ornate, wood, wood hard, wood window, iron)
- amalgam socket for the powergem (3 models- full, active, burnt out), plus firestaff item
- VI altar
- most DM wall buttons
- fountain
- many decorations (locks, magic eye, gem socket, wall chain, hook, sconce..)
and all the rest as walls, alcoves, drainages, pits..

I too did a bunch of dm items yet (waterskin, weapons, gems, food)

Items on nexus:
http://grimrock.nexusmods.com/mods/128

The set will be released at the beginning of next month (march 2013) on grimrock nexus and maybe steam.
I promise i will work on it until all items are in!
All future additions come via update packages later then.

BTW, yet i managed to import a 3d model with bone animation - very basic - and it works. YEAH
That means there is a chance that DM/CSB monsters appear too

Ah, some of you may know me from the past, i created a graphic set for DMJava in the ancient times^^

Happy dungeon crawling,

Only played (and completed) a mod so far but it's pretty good, i like a lot the textures, gives the game a different feeling, puzzles are nicely done too, i think it worth a try (has very good feedback anyway). Oh yeah, it's called Mine of Malan Vael, cool videos of it here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0TWxGZLHUs

I had to try Back into the Dungeon which is supposed to be a complete remake of DM but obviously felt a bit disappointed when i found that the first mummy was replaced by sort of 'tree monster'. Must say it doesn't feel the same. I still wandered a bit and the puzzles looks faithful to the the original, so that's fine i guess

I''ve heard about asset packs which allow to set new items, monsters etc but sounds complicated to install - well, at least for me

I've heard also about a 70+ floor extension - did you say 'crazy' :)

I took a look at that "let's play" video on the Mine of Malan Vael. It looks really good and gives my just 1 more reason to get LoG very soon. :)
