Ogre3D is a very, very good engine. It will more than accomodate your requirements but it needs a skilled hand to craft it (it will only do so much for you), if you see what I mean. Good luck.

What about your engine DSE? It seems quite good too. Are you planning on releasing the source code some time? How does your engine (only you know it in detail) compare to Ogre3D?

Mine isnt in a ready state for release. Its not really an engine and the source has gone through several rewrites as I have learnt new things. Ogre is a much more professional and elegantly composed engine. Mine just does what I require for my DM clone, thats it. Having said that, its taken me bloomin ages to write and it can do a lot of the modern rendering stuff now.

Yeah, your engine is fairly advanced. It would be cool with a decent framework.

Will look into Ogre3D now.

I saw the video footages. Nice fireball!
Like for DSE's Entombed, I'm curious to know if you plan to handle outdoors scenes, if you have at least a basic level editor to toy with, and how big you plan to make your game (just a dungeon or a whole campaign?)

What's up?! Post and make this thread alive!

What are your ideas for a dungeon game...what do you like to see.

I ever thought about a game where time is a factor.
Slay the first monster and face the consequence:
you'll become a monster later, you're thrown back in time, in a room where a young fighter has to make his first senseless kill...
Teach those kids some manners! :)

I think slaying innocent NPCs could trigger a metamorphosis but slaying a monster? After all, it's about slaying monsters.

Well done. Things should start to move for you. Can I ask if you have gone for a current open source engine, or are you coding a new one from scratch? Also, did you get any volunteers from here or did they come from elsewhere ? Just interested :O) Keep up the good work.

Cool, you will be able to port yours to the xbox 360. I have done some work on this and its really cool how you can run (more or less) the same code on a pc and xbox. The xbox is foooooking quick as well when you get your code correct.

Cant wait to see some screen shots and a demo. Good work my friend.

By the way. If you get stuck or just want to bounce ideas of me, please feel free. I assume you are aiming for a flick screen 3d jobby like my entombed ?

DSE: I'll keep that in mind.

Well, we're aiming for realism, as it is common these days for computer games. Graphics-wise it will have an equal quality to your Entombed.
A simple dungeon master rewrite makes no sense for this project, because:
1) It has been done already
2) Only updating the gfx does not add new gameplay features and has not enough substance for an independent product; also we don't want to infringe copyright.

Realism = lots and lots and lots of work and lots and lots of horse power in the target machines. Good luck, its going to be tough.

hehe
well, the target machines are not the problem. When the development phase is over, current high-end machines are pretty mid-/low-end.
We're developing for Geforce 9800 class minimum.

The other point - realism - requires a lot more thinking, but it can be done. When we've got something running, I'll post some screenshots.

Quad 3.2/Geforce 9800 is the system specs of our main coder, so yes, that's minimum. Thanks for your comment DSE :) We hope too that it will rock... :D

Maybe I'm a bit too late for this but... however... I could if needed, contribute about storywriting/level designing/NPC concepts or similar things.
I have more than 13 years of RPG GameMastering so if it is needed I can help pulling out Background stories, characterized NPCs descriptions or ideas for level designing, maybe even some level designing.

I know these roles have been filled yet but I'm ok to act as a sidekik or a reserve if needed.

Its difficult to write a clone like the original. Its 200% harder to do it with modern graphics and then a further 100000% harder if you include physics in a 3d environment. Many commercial 3d games never make it to market and they have funding and professional programmers and a dedicated art team. If I ever win the lottery I promise you I will finish a modern interpretation of DM .... just need that winning ticket :O)

LOL!
Yuo're perfectly right, coding is difficult enough when you're payed to do that, let alone when doing it for a no profit project.

I wish you all the best for Christmas, DSE, and plus, a lot of luck for lottery tickets! ;-)
