Dungeon Eye

Post by iliak »

Team name:
MimicProd

Project name:
Dungeon Eye

Brief description:
It's a remake of the Eye of the Beholder series. The project started about a year ago.

Technology:
The framework (ArcEngine) is in C# and OpenGL (OpenTK). I use Visual Studio 2008.

Talent needed:
As I use the original assets (grrr...), I need

* 2d artist(s).
Every visual need to be done (from the introduction sequence, to the ending game). The general atmosphere/feeling must be D&D to match the game plot.
Right now, the game is in VGA mode (640x400), but I want it to be in XGA (1024x768) or better in SXGA(1280x1024).
As long the file format is in PNG 32b with alpha transparency and the size is a power of two, you are free to use what ever you want (however, it's better to use free softwares...).

* Musician and sound artist(s).
From the ingame music to every little sound in the game.
Currently, the framework supports only wave file. I can improve it to support other (open) audio format.
As for the visual part, you are free to use whatever you want.

Website:
You can have a look at the current state of the project at http://www.mimicprod.net. For a SVN acces, jump there http://code.google.com/p/arcadeengine/source/checkout.

Additional Info:
I'm looking only for one or two persons, no more. I don't want this project to becomes too big for the moment.

Here's a few screenshot of the game :

As you can see, it's the original assets...

I like the tilting effect to the sides , seen on your site.
do you plan to add any further value to the game, or is it "just" a remake?
what are your further goals , if I may ask.

What about the ability to split a party - perhaps limiting this two two parties to prevent complications. This could increase tactile (combat) and/or puzzle-varieties (i.e. party 1 pulls and holds a lever (not holding closes the door again) and party 2 walks through the now opened door then fights a monster to reach another lever which opens the door permanently so that all heroes can once again join the party. I'm not sure if all this is worth the effort...

I would like to have a Map/Quest/Campaign-Editor...

Networkgame good.

Questsystem. great as long as there can be implemented of variet of different types of quests. "get me 10 x and you receive y" gets rather boring after 3 such quests. I'm dreaming of "get me something", "escort person" (if person dies, the no quest-rewward or differnt story arc), "save person within timelimit from death", "find someone/something", etc.

Sorry, I see your post only now.

Team splitting like in Hired Guns http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmi2GXAEgik ?

You can actualy run the editor by pressing "insert" key any time during the game to edit almost everything.

NP.

I loved Hired Guns. Good idea. I played it again a couple of months ago via Emulator, but I found the four small character-windows to fiddly for modern times. Do you want to split the screen only when necessary or do you want to make is Amiga-like (4 windows). I would prefer option 1 - split only if party splits. I guess it depends on how often you want the party to split. Next question then is, if you really want to make a LAN-/Network-mode: how to handle that. First thing to consider what about a character-surplus (for example 2 real people and four party members). Does this mean, that each player has a 2-character party? How to show this in "Hired-Gun-Mode"?
Just a little bit brainstorming...

I had not thought of this option to separate the team... A way to investigate.

For the network part, I thought more about team vs team and not a team controlled by several players. Teams can fight each other or can work together to kill other monsters. Or, as you said, one team pulls a lever and the other team can walks throught the opened gate...

If you get it to work in network you would start a new Dungeon Master era here :) And I would be very interested in how you got it working..
