Have you tried examining the grate in the cell

The hint you may be missing is only shown one
So you may want to restart the game and go slowly and record all the game feedback you receive
some time the clues are suttle and difficult to understand

Great Video

It should help you get out of the jail cell and set you on the path to start the game

I will continue to check this tread and see how you are doing

Have played game twice and should be able to provide additional hints whan you get stuck

Some advice

1) get some graph paper and map the game (I know this is a thing from the past but its part of this game)
2) save often and make a copy of the 8 save games to another folder and keep doing this as it may become important to be able
to go back to certian part of the game to remember what happened then
3) record all game feedback as some of the feedback is only given to you once (I can help you understand if its not clear)
4) Finally enjoy as it is really great game and dont hesitate to try new things

At this moment I am quite amazed by what is there to be explored in ToC. But right now I am already stuck at the beginning: After leaving the cell

the dark area with the mummies, rockpiles and the mace is virtually the only way to go. So I stumbled around in the darkness, dodging the occasional critter, getting poisoned, cornered or just outrightly killed for a number of times, but I finally got the mace and barely made it back to the stairs. But how to go on? "I" am now out of light, very hungry and thirsty, and there does not seem to be a way to go on.

At that intersection where you went down there is also a set of stairs that go up
Its very dark and it may not be obvious that the wall at the top of the stairs is not very solid
try using the hammer on that wall

So now I've spent a few hours to this,

just when I left the cave a giggler grabbed the mace and being pursued by me trying to get it back, he led me around a bit :lol:. After a few exploits the spellbook and some other goodies were found, food and drink is not much of a problem at the moment, and fortunately there were some torches and candles.

I won in the arena, but that does not seem to be sufficient for the
fighter's guild's approval.

2. But now Hieronymus' house

- to hopefully solve the problem of light permanently - seems to elude me. I have been strolling around, chopping at virtually every shrub, trying to use Hieronymus' key in every hole and on every wall, ... . An unfortunate adventurer who had finally succumbed to thirst had a scroll with him pointing me "to the south, behind the shrubs". But where might I find it?

ad 2. Ok,

. In an earlier hint, it was mentioned that

should help. I've tried

investigating Hieronymus' fountain, lighting the fireplace, using another fireplace, using a pyro from the dragon cave, putting the rune into the crater I got the pyro from, using the cauldron in Hieronymus' laboratory
and so on. But what else could I try?

The dragon is dead, and the torches went dead from the darkness field when I first visited the mage guild, I guess
.

(Oh, I just hope that you won't have to walk me through each and every puzzle in the game :lol:.)

I fear that I'm missing something :?:.

I examined Hieronymus' well,

there is a room behind a teleport with a few items, a rune (íf I remember correctly), a teleport back up into his backyard, and a shortcut to the mages' guild. Nothing that would visibly bring me any nearer to activating the FUL rune
. Or does it have to do with

of this thread it was mentioned that the

deep drop could be avoided by placing some specific item on the pit on the next level and then dropping unto that from above. But from where could I get there in order to push that thing upon the pit in the first place? Or would one need a grapple to climb up from the deepest level, so that is not possible to get there until later

Check the walls in his house ground level for a hook it open a wall which leads to a set of stairs to the basement

Once you have the fire rune and can cast a light spell

The mages guild 2nd door puzzle is not the obvious solution i.e. it's NOT the open door spell
Here is my revised text for ver 5.0 of TOC for this puzzle which I know I was stuck on and having read many of the posts
a lot of other players where also stuck on it also
the clue is the one about the security system but its not really obvious what you have to do!!
(Had revised all the text in the game but this new verion 5.0 has yet to be released)


Here is the new revised text...

The Magic Eye looks around then announces: "I will not allow you to pass thru that door!"
Puzzled by the eye's refusal to let you pass, you wonder if there is some way to disable the thing...
This extra clue should help you enter the mages guild proper

I'm playing through this dungeon again, and it's been quite some time so it feels pretty new again; which is great, because now it's version 4.something or other and it's a completely different dungeon. I thought I remembered some things, and have been consistently proven wrong; meaning either I'm getting old or certain things were changed in versions since I last tried.

Anyhow, I wanted to ask about a few treasure rooms. I realize they're optional & all that, but I'm usually pretty good at figuring these things out; but there's 2 of them that give no useful hints to work on that I can see. I'm asking about the treasure rooms in the
Spoiler
sewers
and also in the
Spoiler
clock tower
. I know that second one has a scroll by it, but it doesn't seem to contain any useful information at all. I've browsed back through the thread, and nothing here is overwhelmingly useful either; unless I'm just overlooking it.

Any hints would be appreciated, these 2 rooms are driving me nuts. I suspect that the second one may have something to do with

that button in the hidden wall in the electrified floor section, haven't found any other use for that button yet.

When you look at the picture, you can see that "something" is missing. Add the correct item to the picture to open the door!

2. Clock Tower
Finish this level first... Then, stop (permanently) the time at the good hour and

Thanks for the help, I figured out the sewer treasure room pretty soon after I posted here; and was hoping to have the same luck with the other one but no such luck so far.

I did find the secret passage near

. I tried following the advice here regarding the treasure room in the clock tower but just can't get it. I've stopped time on every different hour possible and then

hit that lever beyond the dragon door
as instructed, but haven't got anywhere. I think I may be misunderstanding what I'm supposed to do, because as it is either the doors are all closed or they're open but the treasure room is still closed. As far as I can tell,

doesn't even do anything; nothing has changed any of the times I've fiddled around with it.


EDIT: Whoops, nevermind. Looks like I got it. Not sure how that didn't happen before, was pretty sure I had tried that already. Anyhow, thanks for the advice again. Now I get to move on to the worst part of the game,

To Misplay Welcome Back it been a couple of Months

To Sealtiel that dark area requires such concentration
make a map of the light area and use it to do the other side
move 1 step at a time and listen very carefully as the floor traps do make seperate noises when they open and close.

Remember DM games are Old school and Making maps are a part of the game

You need ALL 6 the light bombs 3 each side and there are no more in the game
so if you used them for light you cannot open the door
Adamski make some changes from version 3.2 to Ver 4.0 this was one of the changes

As for the door that says "Come back after 60 days have passed"
Here is the replacement clue "Return Here when sixty days have to Passed" in ver 5.0

That is possibly the most important door to open in the game as it the anwser to the big circle riddle
The answer to the door is the same as the treasure chest on the clock level which you solved

The date and time recorded on the clock level is of paramount inportance as to
when you break the red gem to stop the clock and get the key to open the dragon door

That Time is the key to the shop and treasure chamber on the clock level

That day is the answer the the door in question

Do you have a save game before you broke the red gem
load it and go to that door and wait till the correct time the door will open enter the room and save the game
keep that save game or make a screen shot of the back wall you will need it as it
GREATLY Helps solve the 8 riddles in the great circle puzzle

Hopefully You will find some time and finally review my work on version 5.0 and release it.
Hopefully you are progessing on your new game as I'm sure everyone who loves this game are waiting
to play it

Unless there's a specific reason for writing it that way for a puzzle, your suggestion is incorrect. Remove "to":
"Return here when sixty days have passed."

This is part of the "big riddle":

Each time you solve one of this little riddle, you'll have a scroll that give you a hint for the next riddle.

It is Sixty Days there is a 66 step puzzle on another level easy to confuse the two

The Big Circle Riddle is made up of 8 Riddles each riddle once solved will give you a hint to the next riddle

The Sixty Day door leads to a small room with a visual representation on the wall showing the solutions to each of
those riddles and an arrows showing what the next riddle is in the circle of 8 riddles
The Big Circle Riddle
There is no correct starting point or end
and no other hints that lead to the circle riddles.
In other words you solve one part and then the clues lead you to next part

This series of 8 riddles once solved will clear a trap leading to the firestaff
which makes killing Lord Chaos that much easier
My experience playing the game was I had solved 1 of the riddles and had found the room where the firestaff was kept
but was unable to get it as there is a death trap in the location in front of it.
I had got all the way to the level before the prison level where lord Chaos was held.
At that point I dediced that it would be easier to get the firestaff first.
so it took me a week to solve the other 7 riddles to disarm the trap by the firestaff.
These 8 riddles are on many different levels so trying to solve them before getting to
the level before Lord Chaos prison may confuse the player as the clue may refer to
something you have not yet come across in the game.

My advise on the big circle riddel is to wait until you finish the Pit Madness levels and then try and solve the riddles
The Vigor Door

I did not get that puzzle but from reading the posts the solution is 2 runes
The Big Circle Riddle

The riddle at the entrance to the mages guild is pretty straight forward
but what is difficult or confusing is you think you have the correct item to solve the riddle
but you dont realize that there are quite a few of that item in the game
they all look the same but to the game and the puzzle they are not.
So you must keep using different versions of the same item not
realizing that they may not be identical
The Big Circle Riddle

The Horse riddle requires you to remember what was there before good maps help
To Finish you need to explore every part of the game
I keep pointing to making maps which really help the player know when you have
finished differnt areas of the game and what is left to explore.
Have fun try many different thing and I can only use my own experience as a guide
it took me about 10 weeks to complete the game which was AMAZING for DM

Wow, lots of advice since I posted yesterday. Thank you so much for the help, everyone. Can't wait 'til later today to go back & work on this one some more, I feel bad that I never completed the dungeon the first time; I made it to

, which is where I am again right now. Totally frustrating, but that's what it's supposed to do; so I don't mind.

As I recall, there was a door in the previous version of ToC I played that you could use the seeing wand to see through; which showed the big circle riddle. Has this been replaced in this version with the

hellish 60-day door
? I remembered from last time I played the solution to some of the riddles, so I already

used the wand to let the eye see through the door in the clock tower

saved the soul of the cursed bones

played the elven panpipes
, and

placed the 4 candles near the pentagram in the ghost cellar
.

The horse one is throwing me off though, I don't recall anything resembling a horse; except for the shopkeeper's bodyguard, which is a bit of a stretch. Plus I've learned that throwing waterskins (or anything else, for that matter) at them tends to end poorly.

I think it's a bit unfair that you're required to

put all 6 light bombs into that picture to access the treasure chamber
, when that's all that you're allowed to use to get through the

dark mirrored room
. There's no indication that using even one of them will screw you out of it, and since I'm deaf; I had to use them to know when that

. For the most part, it seems like the requirements to access the treasure chambers make sense as a standalone puzzle; but this seems like punishment for using something that is given to you, especially since it's pretty obvious what you'd use them for.

. I always keep both of those anyways, even though I never use them. I just like the look of them. Actually, that second one is a pretty good item; now that I think about it.

Also, you mentioned something about the

alcoves in front of the mages' guild
. I don't even know what I'd be doing there. I remember some jars being in them at first but nothing special about them. Maybe I'll get a scroll for that part later on, I don't know. For now I don't even know where to begin with that one so I'll leave it alone.

. For the most part, it seems like the requirements to access the treasure chambers make sense as a standalone puzzle; but this seems like punishment for using something that is given to you, especially since it's pretty obvious what you'd use them for.
I agree... Maybe it's a good thing if in the 5.0 version, you could buy 6 bombs in the shop. Adamski/Darth mouse, if you read this... :wink:

You've got the right item, but you only need one of them to solve the riddle, ;).
Now, you have to find WHERE you should use it...

one pretty quick, just kinda had one of those moments of clarity where it made perfect sense. Now I'm on to the next one, and I know exactly where to go. I thought I had the right item too, but it seems like I may have been off base; but I can't imagine what other use there would be for

& so forth;

is already the most aggravating area I've come across. Even so, I think I have an inkling what to do with that one; but I haven't found what I suspect I need just yet. I'm just anxious to be done with this section, driving me crazy; well, crazier.

To Sealtiel & Misplay

Pit Madness (Going Going Going Gone MAD!!!!)
There where a few small changes from ver 3.3 to Ver 4.0 it got more difficult
Adamski must have created or finished his Upside / Down dungeon between the 2 versions
as you find some ideas (Clear Glass Blocks) from Upside Down
Again my advice is too map the area. (Be sure to show both holes in the floor and ceiling on these maps)
as they must always line up (thanks to original DM game)

these maps will help as sometimes you need to try the pits in the floors and hope you end up
some where that will allow you to map a new area

in version 4 you must get each key before you can pass the glass blocks
The Treasure room on the pits of madness level

so just keep collecting and trying them till it works
The issue about the 6 light bombs
I agree that it is very difficult and tempting to use then
I completed the level without using them by maping and moving in the dark
1 hex at a time and verifying where I was by walking into the wall to be sure.
the hint is the picture of the bomb in the frame
and there is only one open/Close pit in your way and had the luxery of being
able to hear the sounds it makes. Save game at pit and try again.
But Adamski must decide on this as its is his game.
Maybe seting the number to 5 might be the solution
but I would like to hear form him on this.
He was kind and trusting to offer me the work,
and it was a labor of love to do so...
And offer of additional help still stands!!
But sadly he has not responded to my PM's in some time and I dont feel confortable pushing these issues.
So I will wait till I hear from him.
So hopefully he will read these posts and send me a PM if he has the time.
What we all can hope for is, that he has been busy on his new game.
And i'm sure it will be worth the wait.
