[Custom dungeon] Upside Down [RTC] [Adamski]

Post by Adamski »

Version: 3.3 for RTC V0.49
Platform: RTC
Author: Adamski
Date published: 2010, January 27
Date last updated: 2010, February 25

The U-D project aims to create 4 mini-dungeons where to experiment new mechanics.
The story is a prequel of ToC: the 4 guild masters arrange the final battle against Lord Chaos before trapping him in the Junius' Tower.
Upside Down is the first of these 4 mini-dungeons.

Story:
Image
The 4 Guild Masters, Richard, Zenith, Elektra and Sasuke, get ready to fight against Lord Chaos. Their aim is making him prisoner. Zenith, master of Mages, leaves to find a way to trap their enemy and deprive him of his magic power in the future prison. Elektra’s assignment is finding out Chaos’ secret base, so she heads to the Underground Oracle. Sasuke must acquire information about the Firestaff, a weapon that can defeat Lord Chaos and that was hidden by Junius in a secret place. But King Richard knows this artefact is somewhere in the Tower of Champions, protected by the Great Circle Riddle. With the Junius’ plans of the Tower it could be possible to get the Firestaff. They say that Junius designed the Tower when he lived as a guest in the Kranaff’s mansion, 100 years before. Victor Kranaff was a rich merchant, considered an eccentric and mad man. He loved writing insane comedies whose common thread was the expiation of the sins and the purification of own soul. Sasuke goes with some companions to this house but, after entering, he gets trapped alone. The adventure begins...

Hints and comments:
The first gravity defying dungeon in the world. This is truly a novel concept for puzzling.
Examine everything, in particular wallitems: they can change because of the gravity or have strange behaviour with the items!
A helpful guide in pdf format is also available.

Wow! Fantastic! I'm really looking forward to playing it - although I still haven't been able to find enough time to finish ToC.
Finally playing and immensely enjoying the awesome Thimbleweed Park-a-reno!

Could someone possibly post this on the Forum as trying to download it from Rapidshare is almost impossible. Thanks

Yeah, it will come back later. I would provide an alternate link through DM.com like I usually do, but of course when people would really need it is also the time I get the same overload/temporarily unavailable message!

Got it! And it looks excellent! I wish I had enough time to play it!

@Adamski: The text from the initial scroll (in blue) scrolls to fast and cannot be read easily - perhaps you could make it a bit slower?

Paul, you need to read all the scrolls you found upto this point,

perhaps some magic you found that could help?

I might have missed something - I have the power runes, and 3 sets of other runes. I can't see or cast a spell that seems to help.

I will start again.

I have the weapon and have descended into an alcove with a plate in front of me with a compass. I have killed the sputnik thing taht came from the left but can't make progress to the right as I keep on getting killed by something unseen. I have been in the screamer room but gave up on that as I obviously don't have enough fire power to kill them all yet. There is one room that is confusing me and that is the one with the 4 plates surrounding a pit. Everytime I stand on a plate the pit dissapears, so how do I go down the pit?

I have now found a
Spoiler
green button beyond the tables but can't work out what it has changed by pressing it

Hi Money

Thats easy for you to say lol. I can't use any spells yet because I haven't got any as I need to get to the magic book. Could you give me another clue about the pit (easier)

Oh, I see, I was so low on health I died going down the pit, but assumed it just a short cut down to the teleporter anyway.

Explore all your surroundings. Then give the hermit on the other side what he wants!

Hi Beowuuf

I have got the weapon that the Hermit wanted , killed him
Spoiler
got the key that he dropped
and then found my way to a pit upstairs with 4 presuure pads around it. You obviously have to go down the pit but everytime you stand on one of the pads it makes the pit disappear so there is no way you can descend.

Actually...
Spoiler
no you don't :)
More importantly, don't get too comfortable with the gravity 'normal' - this is a puzzle game of swapping the two. The book is closer than you think!

Sorry, was avoiding reading most of the stuff for spoilage, so if you hit the screamer room you must have partially solved the pit - hopefully one of my comments nets you what you were looking for.

This is truly a novel concept for puzzling, where did it come from?

I am stuck for the moment, will walk around until inspiration hits, probably just an oversight in some cases, and just need to get my head in the right mode otherwise.

I have found a way of killing all the screamers without them being able to kill me. Don't know if anyone else has discovered it but what you do is
Spoiler
cast the upside down spell and it renders them all harmless and you can just go round killing them
. I have now found my way down through the pit surrounded by the 4 pressure plates and am in a room with a alcove with spikes pointing up and down and a portrait of another charachter at the rear. Can someone give me a pointer (sorry for the pun). Just down the corridor is a lever by a door which doesn't seem to do anything but probably does.

Edit: I have now managed to get through the door to the
Spoiler
green button
but by the time I have
Spoiler
gone donw the pit and into the transporter the spikes have closed again

I assumed that was the way you had to do it, otherwise they are pretty vicious!

Consider Adamski's advice:
- examine everything, in particular wallitems: they can change because of the gravity or have strange behaviour with the items
