[RTC] Parallel Universe

Post by PaulH »

Overview:

In an world of infinite parallel universes there are an infinite number of dungeons ruled by Lord Chaos.

Librasulus sends you forth into another world. This is Dungeon Master - but not as you know it...

Comment:

This is a reingineering of the original dungeon. The maps have been subtly altered, keys are in different places, a few new items exist: and of course a few new puzzles. But there are three totally new levels, and a finish that will test even the best of DM players. Enjoy!

Version 1.1: (added 11/06/12) - minor alterations to difficulty at end. New graphics for main screen.

Download this dungeon from this Shared OneDrive (in the 'Custom Dungeons' folder)

Cool, linked and alt link provided! And I'll have to give it a try...though that warning regarding the end seems a little scary...

Yep, it is the DM dungeon reworked. It will make you think - many DM players know the dungeon inside out and have tactics to play it. This will totally undo that, you will have to look in different places for stuff.

The real good stuff is at the end though, I have some new graphics, levels, monsters and puzzles.

It is DM with a twist.

Oh, I am still working on Bane (this was a test bed for some ideas with the new levels), and I have an idea up my sleeve for a new dungeon that has never been seen or attempted...

This is yes! I needed to get familiarised with the editor - whilst I have most of the maps for Bane complete, this was a nice project to get me into it.

Excellent! Thanks a lot, Paul! This is exactly for those of us who think that they know the original DM too well and that nothing can surprise them anymore! I've run through the first level now (left some places unexplored / doors unopened) and - oh my goodness - there's a
Spoiler
Stone Golem
on the next level!

The character progression is faster than in the original DM I think (or there are more fights / tougher enemies) and there are also more treasures to collect. Goood! :)

Holy smoke, you scared me to death with the
Spoiler
fireball sound
in the
Spoiler
Prepare to meet your doom
area! I swear I jumped two feet of my chair! :)

I just don't know if it's the best idea to leave important grey keys lying on the ground in RTC because they're really hard to see. I was quite lucky I noticed that one at the
Spoiler
Stone Golem
on my first pass because otherwise I could still be running there in circles now.

Anyway, it's really superbly done and very addictive! :P

How can I be stuck. I have played this many times before. I am at the point where you have a green button in the corner which open one of two gates. But as soon as you step on one of the pressure plates which surround s it the gate closes. Anyone give me a hint.

Can you block it off first with an item on the ground?

You have to
Spoiler
turn one of the plates off
. It's the
Spoiler
third plate
from the green switch. There are some handle-looking-switches around - I'm not quite sure which one operates the plate, maybe all of them. I think there are two or three of them. Just explore the surrounding area and push all you can.

And, yes, the familiarity of the puzzles is very tricky. Very often it looks like DM but the solution is different, so one must try to forget about DM. I had this problem in the area where you have a gate and two plates, the first one opens it and the other one closes it. It took me about five painful minutes to find the solution. Then I felt like a complete idiot.

I'm really having a lot of fun with that! 10 stars out of 10 do far! :D

The puzzles are excellent! You almost got me with the
Spoiler
"Let the thief do his bidding"
- it took me almost 10 minutes to figure this out and when I finally did I felt like an imbecile (but mostly because I firstly mis-translated
Spoiler
"bidding"
).

Weapons are also very cool - I'm currently using the
Spoiler
"Bastard Sword"
(I play with one character only) but I left behind one or two other cool-looking swords.

Jan I am at the "let the thief do his bidding" bit. I
Spoiler

am I on the right track?

Spoiler
You need to let the thief steal an item from you. Then kill it! When he drops the item, it will trigger the pressure pad and close the pit.

I did that too first. I was quite surprised how many of them can be stuck on one square. When I finally found the solution I bashed my head against the wall.

I am on a massive level. I know that I am on the one below the "let my prisoner suffer" or similar writing on wall. I am wandering around but cannot progress as I need what looks like a blue key which opens a gate with some green poison things behind it. It is just as you come through the blue haze puzzle and there is a stairs going up nearby. There is also another key I need on a level below, think it is a winged key.

You'll find that key in a chest that is... how to describe it... I'll describe its position in the original DM:
Spoiler
It's in the part with many opening and closing pits (below is the "Hahaha" area with a teleporter) - from the pit hall you go to the left corridor and then to a hidden area that's behind a fake wall with manacles, there's a flying snake inside it - there's this chest. It's position is ca (12,10) on the maps.
Here the area looks different but it's there.
the master wrote:There is also another key I need on a level below, think it is a winged key.
It's not winged, but it doesn't matter. You can't go there now, you'll find that key later.

I've reached the Ghost level, but unfortunately I can't go on playing, I'll go on next Friday - by that time you'll all have finished it.

Well seemed to have got through the fireball level okay, although I didn't turn off the fireball but kept dodging them Got the key and have come down one level where there is a small room with a mouse in and a grilled door which I can see 2 poison potions behind. I can';t work out how to open this gate and have tried hacking it, fireballing it with out any success. Assume I need to get through this to progress.

Spoiler
You are correct that you need to use a spell on the door... cast Des Ven (poison blob) and it will pass through the door grates and over a pressure pad, triggering it and opening the door.

Got through to the corridor where you are switched round at a certain point only to find that I am at a dead end. Obviously I am not at a deadend however its just one of Paul's devious plots again. I thought this was going to be a walk in the park having played DM so many times. Any hints appreciated. Bet Jan is flying through this.

No, he's not. Unfortunately he's got no time for that and will be able to get back to the game on Friday on Saturday. The last thing I did last night was that I finished the Ghost Arena level (that's perhaps what you call "Fireball level") and saved my game at the stairs to the Rat level. :|

Did you open the Skeleton Stairwell? I just went down there to check what's different and - yes - there is something different.

I'm very much looking forward to Friday to get back to this wonderful game! :D

Jan didn't open the stairway as I haven't found the skeleton key, unless of course one of the skeletons has dropped it. I will have to go back and see.
