Underworld Dreams

Post by Adamski »

Hello everyone

After years of hard work, Underworld Dreams is nearly complete. I can say 95% done...
The game is really huge:
about 50 levels
about 80 new objects
more than 60 new monsters
10 new spells
lots of new graphics and sounds
an intriguing story

Some screens:

WOW!!

You've returned with a bang!

These screens look absolutely beautiful. I love how you've made everything consistent, it looks like a fully realised world. I love the layering of the grass, it gives the scene great depth.
The creatures look great too, are they hand-drawn or 3D modelled? Looks like a style somewhere in-between?

It's been years since I've played a custom dungeon, but I will definitely play this. Nice job :)

By the way, if you need new imagery for the champion-facing icons, I have some that might work with your style.

Thank you Gambit

The creature are 3D modelled, but not by me. They come from a free-to-play game called DOTA2 (it has an editor for champions, monsters and objects) and I modified them with photoshop.

About the champion-facing icons, Underworld Dreams has only 4 champions. The reason will be clear after playing it. I have already chosen them and their portrait. Thank you anyway :)

Now I must finish a couple of levels, calibrate food, water and coins and, after that, test the game at least twice.

I think Gambit was referring to the icons in the top right corner which show the direction your characters are facing, not their actual portraits.
It does look pretty cool, though - the art style is very nice :).

Wow! Excellent. I only played ToC many years after everyone else (last year) and loved it.
Definitely looking forward to this :D

Ameena, you are right. I misunderstood what Gambit wrote

Gambit, i'd be very happy if you could give me these new icons :D I used the classic RTC facing icons because I preferred change other interface elements. Remember that there is a limit of graphic files you can add in RTC, and I am really close to it.

And finally, thanks to everyone who expressed his appreciation. I promise you that UD will be better than you could imagine 8)

I wasn't aware of a limit to custom graphics
Could you give me a rough idea of what that is?
Is it a number, or just the combined size of all the files?

The object limit provided me with a real pain in the arse a while back, but i didn't know there was a graphical limit too.

Saumun, RTS has 3 limits at least:

1-The total amount of object in the dungeon
2-The number of custom item types. In this number we must consider: every graphic element, animation, sound, playlist, action, spell, wallset, object.
3-The size of RTC file (if I remeber it shouldn't be more than 120 Mb)

I am near the limit in first two points. Third limit can be easily managed using a good .png compressor and using compressed sounds. My RTC file is about 90 Mb and has over 2000 new graphics elements and over 200 new sounds.

Thanks Adamski... That's good to know.

I ran into the object limit in my last dungeon, and did a few tests. It appears to be around twenty thousand, regardless of type.
The graphics, sound, and total RTC file size is new information to me.
Thanks again.

This looks really great! I am looking forward to give it a try. I would also offer you some resources (graphics for new items and music tracks), but given the RTC limitation I do not think you would have a place for them.

My brain is drooling over this. Great work with the graphics, can see you used 2d\3d nicely together. I hope it comes with a story, and maybe a map, it certainly looks impressive Adamski.

Where will it be aavailable once finished?
What are the bells that never ring? Enchanting smell, beautiful thing.
What are the lions that never roar? The wind blows their children far over the shore.
What are the gloves not worn by the hand? But worn by the foxes throughout the land.

Leslie,
what do you suggest? I think the better choice is mega.nz

I am late because I found lots of new problems in the editor. I found an issue with sound management and a strange problem with the object type limit. Despite I didn't pass this limit (I am very close to it), I noticed problems when I try to load a savegame: in the same session I can reload the game few times without getting a crash and having to restart. I can fix this issue only removing object types.

Anyway, the game is ready at 99.9% and next week I'll start the final test. I hope I don't discover new issues

PS: a new screen

Looks awesome.

Adamski... I have a question, but I'll ask it in the RTC editing section so I don't stray too far off topic.

Is this a game that needs team work and hints from the author ?
I am not this kind of player at all. In my opinion this kind of game should be doable as commercial games are. As hard as DM; At most on the hard way, like CSB.
I understand, beyond that, is another way of playing. Unfortunately, I am unable to enjoy this way.
I wonder if there would be a way for a easier mode for stand alone players by means of the hint Oracle. This could be made as an add on built along the team work playing. An alternative to forum spoilers, a sort of official spoiler.

Beautiful: is there somewhere to download this from?
The stonework walls? Pristine. The floor? Level. The waterworks? Flowing. Central heating? The Dragon in the basement was grumpily heating the pipes. Lord Chaos consulted the blueprints again, looking for the bathroom. #playmygame!

The final 0.1% is always the longest... I'm pretty confident Adamski will finish it, and I'm pretty confident it will be excellent. I'm really looking forward to playing this.
