There seems to be password protection on the newest CSB files...am i missing an obvious bypass?
If you are talking about my site (dianneandpaul.net/CSBwin)
then the files named CSBwin96Plusn are source files that will
do you no good. They are there for the people porting the
game to Linux nd macintosh. They are password protected
because they contain the original Atari machine language.

The file ConfluxIITest has the latest Windows version
of CSBwin and should not have any password protection.

I'm currently working on the next version of the dungeon fixing some bugs and I read this whole thread anew. It seems the fury of competition has settled down, though two main competitors didn't find the fiery cerberus!!!
Gambit, are you still writing the quest of legend?

So now I wonder what to do next...

Should we try a timed competition?
Should we make available the record movies?
Should Gambit release his maps?
Should PitD release his review?
Should we start a "hints and questions" thread?

Opinions are welcome :)

Competition: I imagine a second wave, who knows when, happenign at some point of competitions. CSB4win keeps dragging in people, plus people were busy with other projects/winter fun when this was released. So I would say no just yet to releasing anythign like records or maps.

However, I would say yes to a non-spoiler review, and certainly a tips and hints thread

And yeah, why not a timed competition! : )

Out of interest (just a yes/no answer) is it only bug fixing, or are you adding any small additions/modifications?

Funny that, I just started looking at Conflux 2 again today -- haven't touched it for over a month.

I still have the maps to finish -- ther's still loads that I haven't mapped yet. And yes, I will write the quest of legend, but it hasn't progresed any further yet...

Alright, then let's go for a timed competition when I release the j version. I'm looking forward your ideas, PitD, Beowuuf about how we should organize that. We need to put the movies available for download.

Beowuuf: I'll add two or three minor changes beside the fixing. At least, that's what I believe right now. But I'm playing CSB and check the trapcraft with CSBuild, and I'm grabbing some ideas...

I had already made movies for Flask, Lich, Dwarven Treasure, Precious, Trial, Circus Prize and Cerebus. But these were with an earlier version, do they qualify and do you want me to email them over?

excellent *rubs hands*
i guess that answers your question antman...new version, possible slight differences, we'll just wait and have the time trial with j to make it fairest
if you just wanna impress/intimidate with previous efforts, then can maybe arrange something

I've done the bug fixing and I'm ready to release it. If anyone wants to report a bug or make a suggestion or a comment about gameplay, do it now! :)

As for the time records, I watched Antman's ones, they're clever and cruel, and very impressive. But I have no public place to upload them and share them. Anybody wants to put them (and other future records) online?

I would prefer that someone else provide the space. But
if necessary, you can use mine. In either case, don't
forget to apply LogCvt to the recordings before compressing
them. It makes them smaller and MUCH more compressible.

A few of antman's best times are available at

http://www.dmjump.net/antmantimes.rar

edit: 5/4/04 archive includes everything needed to play successfully (csbwin, dungeon.dat, etc)

If you are quire sure ypu are attempting to playback the
game with the correct version of CSBwin, then I need to
see teh savegame and recording to see if I can figure out
why you received the errors. No guarantees. But I gotta try.

The link above has it all. The three other games play fine, the cerberus game only develops errors at the last 20 moves or so
I'll leave antman to say whether categorically these are all played under the same engine

@Antman

I want very much to fis the playback of your Cerberus game.
But it does not look possible without more clues.

1) Did you try playing it back? Did it work? If not, did you
study it closly to see if anything strange happened before
the failure?

2) Is the grapghics.dat that is packaged in antmantimes.rar
the very same one you used? Did it come from YOUR harddrive
directory?

3) Do you have the original record.log file from before
applying LogCvt? Can I have it?

4) Anything else you can tell me that might be significant?

1) I replayed the game and it worked fine.

2) The graphics file, i have no idea, i used whatever graphics file that came with Conflux 2 version g. I can send it to you if you want.

3) Sure do, want it?

4) I think i am using version g, i dont think i got the new versions because i wasn't sure if my saved games would work with the later version.

I hope this helps.

I sent recordings of the dwarven treasure and the cerebus, I also have the flask, Lich, Precious, Trial and Circus Prize, do you want those aswell?

1) You replayed it and it worked!!!! That is very good news.

2&3&4) Please. Send me whatever files you have that made it
possible for you to play the game back without error.
The CSBwin, dungeon.dat, graphics.dat, config.txt, playfile.log.
Hopefully we don't need the portraits directory.

Thanks very much, in advance. I was not looking forward
to debugging this problem without help.
I sent recordings of the dwarven treasure and the cerebus
If you sent them to me I lost them. I spend a good portion of my
day deleting spam. I might have gotten carried away. I promise
to be more careful.

Right now the only problem is Cerebus. That is all I am
interested in at the moment.

I beleive I can debug the problem a little easier - the package supplied is conflux II 0.h - if you haven't done a typo, and were playing 0.g, then this is probably the reason!

And I believe you should be able to play the saved games with the newer graphics/dungeon

I'll try playing it under the 0.g package when i get back from work if no one else has managed

edit: never mind, i checked the recordings again and it says 'release 0.h'

I received the proper files from Antman. They work OK.
The dungeon.dat file is not the same as the one that came
in the antmantimes.rar file. So these are two different
dungeons. Therefore it is not surprising that they play
differently. If I substitute the proper dungeon.dat into
the antmantimes directory then the playback works fine.

Having spent about four hours on this problem and unknown
hours on previous problems of a similar nature, I have changed
CSBwin to complain very loudly if you attempt to play a movie
using the wrong dungeon (or savegame) or the wrong graphics.
This will start with version 9.7.

@Antman: Thank you so very much for saving the original
files and shipping them to me. It saves me from untold agony
of trying to find a problem that doesn't exist.

Glad it was sorted. Antman, can you sent the dungeon to the confluxII mail account, and I can update my upload, and the source files if zyx doesn't get the chance

Quick clue required: is there any point to the emerald forest other than the special item(s) you acquire?

Hi,

when I fell down through the pit in the Tomb the Ra Door opens itself after a few seconds. But there is still a possibility to put the key into the keyhole. A bug ?

I managed to fight through the few killable spitter trees with my cursed party; took hundreds of attempts -- very tough! Found the stair case, ascended, used the icewinds, dropped through the right pit, ascended again, put the bone doll in the altar, opened up a pathway -- that simpy goes round in circles. I can find a way out into Smaug's cavern and then Moria, but is the circular pathway intentional or a bug?
