looking for access to the wild wood (ToC spoilers)

Post by spockdj »

Hi

I am stuck without the stick at a pit trap.

Apparently I needed to gain this from the wild wood.

I have gone back and found a room in the forest that says wild wood on the wall of an alcove but I cannot see any switches or access to the wild wood.

Am I missing something.

Please help if you can.

A step by step would help.

A stick, a stick my kingdom for a stick!

First of all, it seems you are playing Towers of Chaos by PaulH.

As far as I recall, you need a stick to enter the wild woods, and then another at the bridge puzzle. You can find a stick on the outskirts of the "town". Look for the "Double your money" puzzle and go exploring from there, near the "Beware the Skull" part, a stick will lie on the floor. Once in the wild woods, you can pick up two more sticks that lie around there. Hope this helps.

Sorry not enough info

I cannot find a way into the wild wood as the alcove has no visible entrance.

I have been about where the beware of the sculls section is but all i found was a y shaped staff that has no effect on the pit.

Please can you lead me by the nose through this section.

This is my first play at Dm in 8 years

I love the dungeon and would hate to quit due to this little hiccup.

The y shaped staff is exactly what you need. Go back to the alcove that says "Wild Woods" at the wall and look closely for an entrance to put the stick into. Even a crack in the wall will do...

If the stick didn't work at the bridge, it is possible that you are on the side that requires the rope. You need both a rope and a stick to close the pit, and you have to climb two towers to access the pit from both sides. You need a gem to enter the second tower, though. That gem will be found in the wild woods.

Hope this helps.

Yes, the stick and rope have their respective sides. You cannot climb the 'stick' (blue tower) until you have been in the wild wood (using a stick also, as Trantor said) and got another stick and obviously the 'key' to the tower.

I shall be around a little more frequently than of late.

I have entered the section with plus style buttons on the walls.

What I cannot figure is how I opened and reopen the conecting door.

It opened and is now closed.

What did I do and what do i do now.I have the key but the door is closed..?

You have to press the red buttons in a certain combination so the two doors in that area open. Just try out various combinations. There is also a grate door not too far away from that area where you need to throw a little object through. Hope this helps.

I am not quite sure what you mean. Do you mean the wooden door at the very beginning of the level, in the room with the Slimes? If yes, that door is only supposed to be a shortcut to the top of the tower once you have beaten it. You should have a Square Key that opens the grate door you threw something threw.

Top of starirs then through the 4 protculises the find rock and arrow kill wizard and slimes press button in crack in wall.

The wooden door that seperates you from the plus shaped button room opens but i dont know how or why.(1)

I have killed the 3 wizards and the slimes and got the key, found a jem slot in the wall.

tried to leave the area but the wooden door (1 ) is now closed.

how do I open it please?

That's weird, that door should not be closed again! Could you send me your savegame to trantor42 AT aol dot com? I will have a look at what happened and correct it.

I think I know what has happened, and you are very unlucky if this is the case. Call it a little bug.

The wooden door is opened via a pressure pad that is activated by throwing an item through the portcullis at the opposite end of the room (once you have pressed the crack switch). My guess is that a monster has walked on the pad, you have gone through the door and the monster has walked off, locking you in.

So my fault, you are stuck! Either use the editor to correct it, or send to trantor (cheers mate!) who might just do that for you and send it back to you!

Again, apologies for this: a simple case of not setting up a pressure pad correctly. So many ways dungeons can cock up!

Just checked how the pressure pad works. Indeed, it works incorrectly, and what Paul described is possibly what happened. Why did you incorporate the "clear" message at all Paul? Or was it just overlooked?

I think it was to give the player an idea what was opening the other door. I should not have put a worm in there: vexirks do not trigger pads.

So yes, oversight of some sort. Soooooooo many combinations of things that might happen.

So am afraid it is gonna have to be an editor job! Again, apologies.

Vexirks do not trigger pads? Interesting to know should I ever work on my dungeon again (which I doubt). Shows once again how complicated bug-fixing can be.

Ah, yes, I remember one of them hovering above a pit in The Black Flame. Weird... Is there a way to change this in CSBWin? Because Ameena once said it was in RTC.

I think there is a bit you can change in ADGE that brings them down to earth, but it is something I have not experimented with. I sorta like them hovering now anyway... it did give that shock value in BF when people 1st saw it! Combined with the 'false' pit, it made navigation here somewhat hard.

However I have now completely redrawn them and doubled their height for my new dungeon! I'll have you a test soon Trantor... when Sera gives me her dragon pics!

I remember how annoying it was when I had a vexirk inside a fasle wall. The wall wouldn't blow up on it's death, took me ages to realise the darn thing floated!

And man, that four door thing. I rmemeber getting stuck there doing it - it wasn't obvious, for whatever reason...

There are a few close together puzzles just there in ToC. And yes, I too made that vexirk mistake once!

Thanks to you for the edited game file.

I really do enjoy the game.

I suffer from motion sickness on Halflife and virtual 3d games of today.

Also, I much enjoy the simple story line of this style of game.

Multifaceted or multiquest style rpg games confuse me when I leave long intervals between my game times.

So thanks to you for reviving this long overlooked game.

P.S. If I get stuck again I know who to email but is there a game editor I should download if I wish to amend small problems? :P

Sure, there is! Just use CSBWin, it is the editor that was used to create (ok, to tpdate) Towers of Chaos. You can download the latest version on www.dianneandpaul.net.

Editing game files

Post by Guest »

HELLPPPPP...!

I feel like I am going around in circles.

How do I use csbwin to edit my game file?

I cannot get dmute or csbuild to open the files.

I found the www.dianneandpaul.net. although the link is bad.

I downloaded the csbwin file CSBwin96Plus16.rar but this just launches the game.

Somebody tell me what I am doing wrong or how to open the "Cast your Strength cast your might door " in towers game

If the latest CSBuild will not open your file then I need
to know about it.

http://www.dianneandpaul.net/CSBwin/CSBuild218.zip

You have too many '.' (periods) in your link. Remove the
last one and it will work better.

In towers, I believe you need to throw an object through a door you can't se, then zo a door behind it - so you need good strong throughs with weapons like arrows and daggers, followed by a powerful ZO spell - plus, there might be soemthign else I have forgotten
