[Custom dungeon] Conflux III: The Undercity [CSBWin] [Benjamin Prieu (a.k.a Zyx)]

Post by Zyx »

Version: WIP008

Story:
Upon decision of the Council,
you have been chosen, Sorcerer, to fulfill an important mission: to save our undercity.

As you know, Sorcerer, our town is built at the feet of the very mountain of the Heroes. Once a dwarven fortress, it was built and rebuilt dozens of times, though never defeated. But now the enemy comes from within. An expedition must be sent into the fortress, and the best would be its own dwellers. For the Council has decided to revive the Ancient Guilds, and you, Sorcerer, are the One who will choose which members are to be given life anew.
The magic of the Council won't afford more than four heroes...Council's orders... you’ll understand, Sorcerer, that old people, specially dead leaders, must make way for the young, living ones.
You will be presented to four guides. Each one has the key for the Ancient Guilds. You won't find any entrance if you don't pick at least one guide, Sorcerer. Choose well, as the Gift of Life alters the Loom of Destiny.
Learn our glorious past from the annals of the Guilds to make an accurate choice.

The Council of Laelith

Aim:
Several paths and endings are possible. You'll have to discover them. It will take you weeks or months to explore everything.

Oh yes baby! Well done Zyx and all his helpers.

I get a dialogue box at the start saying "Excessive DSA activity - this is your final warning!" - I take it this is benign?

It's just the CSBwin engine telling us what we all already knew.

Cool! Had a very quick look at this and it's a massive step up from the last version with all the new imagery. I noticed a fair bit of stuff from the ZIP file I provided, so nice to see that it was useful!

I noticed some oddness though. Some creatures remained still and I could attack them easily (the weird crawly things in the food stores for example). Also in the food stores rats have a very horrible palette.

Sounds are great - I have jumped more than once! Ambienec is cool too. I am credited with providing sounds, but I don't recall that! Which ones?

Shambling mounts, screamers, and caterpillars are amost vegetative creatures, they should pose no threat. They're extremely slow and make few damage.
Same for trees and alike.

For the rat palette: fixed for next update.

The sounds:
Gambit, you provided the original DM sounds with less noise and a slight echo, maybe some others sounds too? I can't remember...
Linflas, I don't remember either, you'll have to play until you find them :)
I know I wanted to take the buzz sounds of your wasps, but at the end, I didn't.
But yes I did stole your idea for the rats: )

As for the excessive DSA warning, next CSBwin version should tolerate a little more before displaying such a message, which only means that the game may become slow.

Conflux III comes out just after talk of 'another competition' thread? What? Well, I think I better beat this first before going into competitions, but Zyx is going to have to host one! =]

no problem about hosting one, I'll just wait a little for you to get used with the first levels, and to report any major bug.

Just to tell everybody here to tick "Volume->Quarter" and "Volume->Attempt to use Direct X" otherwise the sound of Conflux III does not work at all !
Also I attached my config.txt, for french keyboard layout. Maybe it will help some users. Download it here.

All those sounds, graphics, new monsters, riddles are incredible ! Thank you for all the authors of Conflux III !

I think Zyx tried to set all of this in the batch
files he provided. At any rate, it worked for
me.

Did you use the batch files to start the game?

I don't either.
I just hate the fullscreen attribute, and did not see any difference between the presets. I prefer to use my "play-conflux IIIa.btm".
I wrote here just in case some people who don't use the preset wonder why the sound isn't working. It may helps as the sounds are incredible !!

Weird that you guys don't use full screen! It's the best way to play as your completely absorbed and nothing else is windowing about in the background.

Oh, I just remembered, I had to edit the batch files for fullscreen to work properly: the default ones just stick the window in the top left corner at a small size and leave everything else black.

Zyx, you need to add SIZE=EXTRALARGE before SIZE=FULL for it to work properly. (You need BOTH in the file)

I never use FullScreen. When I tried the batch file
it took me some time to figure out how to stop the
the thing without menus. :-)

People certainly are different. I guess that's why
they are forever fighting.

I added a batch file for a windowed CSBwin, with the directx option.
I added the SIZE=EXTRALARGE, verylarge, large, small for each resolution.
