support science with Distributed Computing Project

Post by Adamo »

http://distributedcomputing.info/

you don`t pay for anything and the CPU will be working on data packets only when it has free time, that way you can support science!!! I did - with 2Ghz CPU it uses up to 30% it`s time when a lot of applications are opened and I`m playing old games and listening music through the net, etc.

Imagine that in the same time you`re playing DM, your computer works for the science! (using only the free CPU time and when possible - of course when you start running 30 winamps at the same time, the calculating will be stopped!).

oh, don`t support Seti project, it`s a pure waste of CPU time!

Ah splendid, I'm sure it's a worthier cause in the grand scheme of things. Added to my BOINC. :)

An open-ended mathematical project (Mathematical Institute of Leiden University, Holland and Kenninslink, a Dutch Institute to promote science). They searches for the ABC triples (up to 10^18 limit so far).
By having a list of all the triples in a range 1-n, where n is a very large integer, one can study the pattern and hopefully gain an insight into the distribution of triples, and even more hopefully, insights into numbers in general.

Work units are rather small and doesn`t require a lot of computations, so it fit even to very old machines. Of course you won`t have any profits supporting this, but it also won`t disturb you with anything (work, games, etc).
