Just wondered how 'the arena' is going - still about the same?

I forgot to say, i uploaded the level 7 maze idea for people to try and spot any unknown bugs...i think i will stop the stair bug by having on and off triggeres in little 'cave' rooms at the start/end of the level, so you can spin on the stairs no problem, so as long as nothing else comes up and people can live with the no saving when doing the maze, then i think it will be ok...

About 98%. Just a few cosmetic changes needed which I will have done over the weekend. Beholders were just too underused in DM (and the Flying Eyes in CSB). Well, all that's set to change  <p><font face=arial>Ian

Beholders

Post by Zyx »

Sounds a great idea! I was disappointed by the beholders of DM when I related them to the one of Dungeons&Dragons.
Even so, they're a great monster, as they fly, cast spells and open doors!

I still want to take the dungeon right after Ian to make some minor changes to level 1.

Amber, I believe...

right, so the calander is:

version--person----levels--------done?
v0.00----beowuuf--1+7(0+6)----yes
v0.01----zyx------ 2(1)---------yes
v0.02----beowuuf--1/7 correct--yes
v0.03----Ian-------8(7)---------almost
v0.04----zyx-------2 correct----no
v0.05----LMB------3(2)---------no
v0.06?---Amber?---4+5(3+4)----no

afterwards, amber fro recreating the spider/knight levels, me with my maze (maybe an additional latr level) - anyone else? (if the pad count hold out! : ) ) <i>Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub17.ezboard.com/ubeowuuf.showP ... beowuuf</A> at: 5/5/01 10:00:14 pm

I've come across a little, um, problem...

I'm using quite a few pits on my level, which span the whole large room. I intend to make the level below like the one in DM (corridoors which you drop in and just one teleporter to serve the whole lot). I only just realised when doing it that I will need most of the level. So, here's what we could do:

- I do level 9 too
- I do level 9 and use it as part of level 8 i.e. a double level where once you've solved all the puzzles on both, you get the key or whatever to go to level 10
- Someone else does level 9 but has to build round my area of the level (or maybe even incorporate part of it in their level)
- We just leave level 9 out and put a set of stairs straight down to level 10 near the entrance.

I don't mind doing it, the level would be smaller than level 8 because most of it is used for the pit system. What do you think? <p><font face=arial>Ian

I say if you have ideas go for it! Alternatively the shop (and ending?) can always be stuck there instead, giving me more room for the maze on 7(6)...

level 10

Post by Zyx »

1. Yeah, if you've got ideas, do it!
2. Otherwise, just prepare the pit landfalls on level 10:
someone will use them to make a way back to level 9, put some riddles, etc. This will allow a better meddling of our styles (I mean, instead of one designer/level, several designers/level and several levels/designers)
3. Also, you can leave it " as it ", the other Dmuters will design level 3, 4 ,5 ,6 etc. When we are in need of completing level 10, the answer might just come by itself, or you may have it already designed in your own copy.

I have uploaded my level. I might want to edit it again at a later date, I haven't decided.

I simply called it "Ian.zip" btw :D <p><font face=arial>Ian

I couldn't complete all the changes, but I released DungeonV03.zip so LMB can design level 2.
I propose to keep the name "Dungeon" for the next release.

To Ian:
Ian, I hadn't time to try your level, but it looks interesting.
You should document at least what items are needed and provided, so others can use them or provide them in their levels. I changed the Crown of Nerra to a Callista to avoid screwing your riddle.
You didn't precise which texts you changed so we don't known which ones are to be erased. Also, you changed one of my texts to "Leave your swords...". Anyway, I'll make another text.

zyx: Old versions of the texts are included in Ian's dungeon, you might want to grab the new ones from version v0.02 and put them in - and lol, too late! ytou posted as I was

to LMB: same as zyx - there are now different texts in v0.02, iain's, and v0.03 that need to be combined!

Ian: wow, admittedly I'm using a weak party, but I'm getting my..party...kicked here..
It's a cool level - I keep generating beholders stepping anywhere though! Are all four items supposed to be available for the main puzzle on the level? I got the boots of speed and lock picks, and the crown and compass would be available earlier - is this right? Or are the last two also on your level? <i>Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub17.ezboard.com/ubeowuuf.showP ... beowuuf</A> at: 5/9/01 11:53:14 am

If you grab the level, modified texts and comments .txt files from dungeonv0.02.zip, and add in ian's section from the comments.txt in iain.zip, then all should be good

also, if you delete any answered q/a bits in the bugs section of the levels.txt too then we're probably good to go again!

I need something changing. I put the items next to their alcoves for testing purposes, please delete them, thanks.

As for the objects, as far as I can remember:

Boots of Speed - in a secret passageway
Lockpicks - Carried by a Giggler
Crown of Nerra - there is a Mummy generator, look for a room nearby which is opened by the Onyx Key given by a Beholder that is carried by a Giggler in the room you need the flying corbamite to enter
Compass - Look for a Cross Keyhole and use the key you got from the above Mummy <p><font face=arial>Ian

Hmmm, it seems I made a big mistake with the dungeonV03: with the hurry of travelling, I probably swapped the original and the modified dungeon: so, dungeon03 is the same as Ian.zip.
As LMB already made level 3, I take dungeon04b to add the corrections!
This should tale only a few hours.

To LMB: these corrections will affect slightly your level in the NW corner: please let me know if you disagree.

To Amber: I hope you'll read this before making any changes! If not, don't worry, I can do the changes agin after your level.

Ok, I'm done with the upgrade.
Dungeon04b.zip is ready!
Now it's Amber's turn.
If anyone knows his mail, he should send the dungeon to him.

Its uploaded

Post by sucinum »

ok, its uploaded: dungeon05.zip

for the next levels:
who wants to do another one?
done are 0-3, 6 and 8.

i want to do level 10/11 and would also do level 7, if it fails on people :)
but i need some time to collect new ideas, so i'd say someone else should go on with level 4 or whichever he likes to.

oh, and someone could please help me with the text changes i asked for and upload it as dungeon05B.zip.

Umm, when I get back I have my invisible maze for the shop level (level 7) and I have been playing around with a corridors level that I could stick either in level 11, or level 5...I can spen a while doing those unless anyone has any levels they want to do?

To amber: nice feeling level, just checked it out. I've made all the changes except changing item names (we can't).

What was the problem with selecting champions in amalgams?
