Alcoves and fountains at the edges

Post by Bit »

I think I met a fountain somewhere in CSB that's at the eastern border and I think I missed it in CSBuild, because such special things used to be shown in the next (not existing) square. Is that correct?
How to create such a fountain or alcove? Must CSBuild be enlarged by one on each side?

Is it possible that it was a random
wall decoration? Otherwise, there
is no way to place anything on
a border wall. If the level is 32x32
then you cannot enlarge it. On level
5, a fountain is a possible random
decoration.

But I don't think a random decoration
can go on the border because, for example,
if an alcove went there then an item
placed in the alcove would have nowhere
to go :!:

Each level has a set of "random" wall decorations that are placed by the engine on the outermost wall, even though you can't edit them with the editor. I have no idea how this works (why aren't the wall items in different places each time you play, for example?) but I'm sure Paul can shed some light on it.

OK......the randomness is not random at
all. It is the result of a hash function of
the location. So it is always the same for
a particular wall.

The border can receive random decorations.
BUT---alcoves are removed. Probably for the
reason I stated two messages above this one.

There was a note here from Gambit37 but it seems to have disappeared!

We posted at the same time again, but your reply made mine redundant so I removed it.

That's a 'dry' fountain then? Didn't know that this is possible - still full of surprises.
I just was wondering because the situation seemed to be weird.
