Dungeon Making Resources

Post by Joramun »

Hi,

I was looking for some graphic resources for DM, and I must say that would be cool to centralize all released graphics / sound resources (not as .dat files but as bitmap / wave in big archive files) in one thread, because digging those resources in the forums or hacking them from the games is not that easy.

Fan Made Custom Graphics:

DMJava graphics:
* viewtopic.php?t=25443
Some additional DM Java Portraits: * http://www.geocities.com/fmunoz_/dm/dm.html

Cowsmanaut's RTC graphics:
* http://chaos.zpc.cz/files.html

Lighthouse's HD graphics:
* viewtopic.php?f=31&t=29287

Graphics extracted from retail games:

Dungeon Master
* DM2 (Amiga)
* DM2 (Amiga, double size graphics for RTC)
* DM2 (PC)

Other Dungeon Master type Games
* Captive
* Knightmare
* Dungeon Hack
* Eye of the Beholder 1,2,3

Other types of games [Might not resize well for DM type games]
* Heretic
* Hexen

Tools & Utils

Graphic / Sound editors
* Gimp: http://www.gimp.org
* Audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net
* Ultimate Paint http://www.ultimatepaint.com/download.php

Dungeon editing tools:
http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=taxonomy/term/80
* ADGE and DMExtract open DM_PC graphics.DAT
* CSBGraphics opens CSBWin csbgraphics.dat
* DMute edits DM_PC dungeon.dat

Editors
* RTC Editor
* CSBuild for CSBWin
* Kentaro's Tools for wallsets
* Linflas' RTC Wallset maker: download file rtcwm0.2.rar from this shared OneDrive in the Tools folder. [Info]
* Linflas' RTC Item Positioning Tool: download file rtcip0.4.rar from this shared OneDrive in the Tools folder. [Info]

If it's stickied it's complete, if it's still at the top of the list it's probably still active

Too many tools rely on people's real life, so just like clones, tools can look atcive and then never see another iteration (Sadly somehting like DMBuilder) and others can look dead then suden;y come back to life

I will sticky this so people can add to it, and contribute and clean it up when I've got the time

Edit: Actually, what ADDF asked for was the the tool name to be the in the subject line of posts, which is what I did!

Well, the stickied one leads to a dead link... :roll:

Other than that, ok I can see what tools are there, but since discussion are not really "heated",
I don't know if anybody is still using them and which one I should use

It doesn't really matter for me because I won't use CSBWin, but maybe other people who still worship CSBWin,
Or people who want to convert old dungeons to RTC or any of the coming Next Generation DM Clones ;)

What stickied thread are you talking about? I notice I didn't update the hextut from DMute but then again its getting outdated with the new DMute and I'm not sure who uses it anyway - went and updated it

I understand the need, but then someone else is going to have to do it I'm afraid - obviously the first place to start is http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=node/655 for a list of the tools.

Then again, there actually aren't that many tools that people need to use - a combination of CSBuild, CSBGraphics and ADGE for CSBwin

Dmute still remains the editor of choice for PC games I think, because DMBuilder doens't allow text editing without creating crashes, a shame

Dmute converts games to RTC and then RTC has its own editor

CSBuild converts PC games to CSBwin

Kentaro's tools are a good stepping stone to DM II editing, but if I recall they aren't finished

Other resources - graphics links are at the bottom of the CSBwin sticky for engine/editor links, the RTC editing forum has the old guide for getting to knwo the original structure and a link for libraries, though I think it only has one entry so far, the DMjava thread should ahve its own sticky for links too, but really Germanny's site has all the resources for that

There may be some threads in the creative forum or relevant forum with graphics/sounds linsk that might need collated together if someone could do that

Anyone know any more?

http://www.dungeon-master.com/forum/vie ... 46&t=27954
Check the second link.

Hey, can someone point me to where I can download the original CSB graphics.dat? I'm specifically looking for the Deth Knight image (not animated armour). I can't seem to find it on my computer. I use CSBwin and ADGE, btw.

You should be able to download the CSBwin10.0 package from the encyclopedia and get the death knight from that. I think Paul made two separate packages with DM and CSB files to avoid confusion, but both should be there

Beo is right:
select in the quicklinks above CSBWIN (INFO AND DOWNLOADS)
it brings you here:
http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=node/851
There in the downloads:

Code: Select all

Downloads

Clone-CSBwin-PC-DungeonMaster-100.zip Clone-CSBwin-PC-DungeonMaster-100.zip
    CSBwin v10.0 for Windows with the original Dungeon Master dungeon.
Clone-CSBwin-PC-ChaosStrikesBack-100.zip Clone-CSBwin-PC-ChaosStrikesBack-100.zip

Using the link provided by Remma12, I've now compiled a more complete version of EOB resources. There's now a "super" zip containing everything I've got for Eob 1, 2 and 3. There are several versions included which are either due to platform palette differences, or differences introduced using different extraction tools.

Copyright remains with the respective original creators.

Files shared here DO NOT fall under a "fair use" policy...

However.... it's up to the individual to decide if they think it's OK to use assets from old games in their own custom dungeons, purely for fun and not for profit.....

If you use anything in your own dungeons, I would at least make sure you acknowledge the original creators in your README.TXT file and make it clear that your project is not-for-profit, for fun only and that you're happy to remove all such assets if you should be asked to do so.

The best advice I can give is to simply not publish any external links to outside websites for your custom dungeons. The DM forums are not indexed by search engines, so anything you post here doesn't get seen on the wider web.....

So ok as long as my dungeon remain only a non-trade hobby and i publish them only at this forum, wit'out adveresting them? (and play them with my real life friends) And assuming i remember to grant credit to the makers in readme text file?

If so, then good. I were afraid that it would perevent me using such great graphics!

I am indeed everywhere. Well, I am on three forums, but that's probably enough :)
Was unable to (permenantly) kill off ian_scho (Haynuus), Ameena, oh_brother (Westian), money (Falkor), raixel (Petal) and Lord_Bones (Aurek) in the DM D&D game Time's Champions!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THOSE WHO MADE THE GAME WHAT IT WAS - GREAT!

Well, I didn`t like EOB2 and EOB3 as much as EOB1. This applies to DM2, too. DM1 and CSB were much better IMO. Continuations are sometimes worse than the original. Kes, if you want to play EOB2, there`s a special clone on the way ( http://www.dungeon-master.com/forum/vie ... 19&t=28626 ). Not sure when it`ll be finished though. BTW, hello and welcome!

This thread is for talking about resources, not games. Please discuss games in the relevant other forums, thanks.

For editing graphics I like Ultimate Paint, which has a freeware version available for download. It has everything you need for creating dungeon master style graphics. My favorite feature is saving custom palates so you can set up and save a palate with just the 16 colours from the original dungeon master/csb set and make authentic looking dm/csb style graphics.

I realize this is an ancient thread but I was curious if anyone ever ripped the gfx out of the Genesis Warriors of the Eternal sun and if so where might I find the location of the tilesets?

re ripping genesis, while its amazing the amount of info and file structure of things like nexus. In general for any console help look up those kinds of hacking sites. I'd suggest Sega extreme, rom hacking esp for genesis. While I don't expect anyone to jump up and want to help on that, you should be able to find computer tools to figure out how to rip it. https://www.romhacking.net/ https://segaxtreme.net/

A tool for creating dungeon images. I made it for myself for my own game but it might be useful to somebody ;)
