The ignore list doesn' t work anymore.
My foe list does' t filter out obnoxious "conversations" anymore.

I just tried using the 'foe' feature (never tried it before) and it worked fine: posts from foes are hidden by default, replaced by a short notification and a link to display them.

Thanks for your answer. I found the issue. My mistake.
I had forgotten that it hides posts from foes only when logged in.
Side note. When logged out, one is not protected from worthless obnoxious posts.

I think I understand why this is true.When logged out, one is not protected from worthless obnoxious posts.
