Re: Favorite One Liners
Okay yes, that one I do know - that's Qui-Gon Jinn to Watto in Star Wars Episode One, The Phantom Menace .
Need to see if I can think up a quote as I haven't done one for a week or two now...hmm...okay how about this...
"They've killed hundreds of us!"
"And we've killed thousands of them!"

CS - Your quotes are from Throw Momma from the Train
To add to my previous one "Life moves fast, if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you might miss it"
You killed the car.
Ameena's seems familiar...but can't place it.

At last i know one.... I knew i'd heard Zedd's previous quote before, but couldn't pin it. "You killed the car" got it for me. Ferris Bueller's Day Off !

To assist in guessing my quote, here's another one from the same film...
"Ah, trolls exist! They steal your socks. But only the left ones. Why is that?"

That's correct Jan.
"They've killed hundreds of us!"
"And we've killed thousands of them!" Is it a star trek episode? quote that is also from the same one is, NO KILL I or is it a Lord of the Rings movie? puzzling

The last two quotes.... One (seemingly) light-hearted and one violent, involving trolls. Still no idea. Is it live action or animated?

Re: Favorite One Liners
Lol Saumun - in context, they're pretty much the other way around from what you said. The first one occurs during an argument between two characters while the second is a joking sort of comment made by someone else earlier on. Okay, here's another (hopefully more obvious) quote from the same film...
"You need to stop all...this!"
"But you just gestured to all of me!"
Jan - That quote has been said many times by Homer Simpson to Bart, usually immediately followed by a chase and/or strangulation attempt .

Indeed.Ameena wrote:Jan - That quote has been said many times by Homer Simpson to Bart, usually immediately followed by a chase and/or strangulation attempt .
And now something from the other side of the difficulty scale:
(with a strong Scottish accent) "I've got lunatics laughing at me from the woods. My original plan has been scuppered now that the jeeps haven't arrived. My communications are completely broken down. Do you really believe any of that can be helped by a cup of tea?" -- (with a normal English accent) "Couldn't hurt, sir."

Re: Favorite One Liners
Jan... This is a bit of a stab in the dark, but is it from Dog Soldiers?
I don't remember the line itself, but there are soldiers in the woods... and it has been a long time since i saw it, but i'm sure one of them mentions wanting tea.

Nope. And there are lunatics, I mean real lunatics in the woods, not soldiers. It's a classical 1970s war movie, full of stars, epic.Saumun wrote:Jan... This is a bit of a stab in the dark, but is it from Dog Soldiers?

EDIT: Ummm... technically, as a non-native speaker, I noticed... shouldn't it be either a "stab in the back" or a "shot in the dark" rather than a "stab in the dark" (or a "shot in the back" )?

Re: Favorite One Liners
Dammit... Also because Dog Soldiers is an English movie (and i'm reasonably sure there's a Scotsman too), i thought it might be that.
In that case.... I don't know it.
'Stab in the dark' is a pretty common phrase in England (it is in the north west anyway. I can't speak for the whole country)... Meaning to take a broad guess. Basically the same as 'Shot in the dark'.

Wow, thanks. Boy, you do learn something new every day! And a "stab in the dark" is easy to remember - will always remind me the starting room in the CSB.Saumun wrote:'Stab in the dark' is a pretty common phrase in England (it is in the north west anyway. OK, so let's give you another quote before I tell you the answer:
"Why do you always carry that umbrella?" -- "Bad memory. Never could remember the password. Knew no Jerry would carry one. Had to prove I was an Englishman, you see."

Re: Favorite One Liners
If it helps, my quotes involve both American and Scottish accents - the American-sounding ones are the "thousands of them" and "all of me" quotes, both spoken by the same person. Within the setting, though, you'd really expect this person to have a Scottish accent, along with all the other people who don't.

"Fortune and glory, kid. Fortune and glory."
Again, no idea on Saumun's quote.
Either we're running out of the commonly known movies or we simply watch different things. Honestly, I don't follow the modern movies, and I don't spend much time watching TV / going to cinema. I'm only crazy into older TV series - the various British comedy series like Monty Python, Yes (Prime) Minister, Red Dwarf, IT Crowd etc... and detective series, like Hercule Poirot, Sherlock Holmes (I mean the 1980s one with the most excellent Jeremy Brett), Columbo, etc. I've got most of them in DVDs collections and I know these series backwards.

Well, I'm with you on most of the British sitcoms. Film-wise I tend to prefer animated/Fantasy stuff, so I watch a lot of Pixar, Dreamworks, Disney, etc. It's probable that you haven't seen the film I'm quoting from so I'll tell you - it's .

Re: Favorite One Liners
Haven't seen Ameena's, so had no chance.
As for Jan's... I can hear it being spoken in my head, but it just won't come to me. Well known movie with well known actor, yes?
Jan has just named some of my favourite comedies ever
Particularly MPFC and Yes Minister (and Yes PM). Red Dwarf too... Especially the earlier series.
A clue to my quote... It's a movie from the 70s, and is famous for a couple of reasons.
But again, they're only easy if you've seen them.

Indeed. It's one of the movies where you can hear the "I've got a bad feeling about this."Saumun wrote:Well known movie with well known actor, yes?
Saumun: OK, I didn't know your quote so I checked it on the internet - I've seen this movie but only once in my life and it was a long time ago, so no chance there to remember that line. Honestly, it's and excellent movie of course, but a little disturbing - I prefer movies where I can relax, laugh, shake off the anxieties of the day and all the troubles and serious things, escape from reality, have some fun; and so this kind of movies is not exactly what I enjoy... but again, it's excellent, no doubt about that.
Ameena: Alas, I haven't seen it.
