Re: DMJ for Android?

it must be a bug in this android version
It seems unlikely that there is NO way to close that pit. Perhaps
the person who converted the game misunderstood how this
particular puzzle worked in the original. Somebody must
have tested the game to the extent that each of the four exits
from DDD is accessible.

Has anyone found a way to examine the data files of this game?

Edit: It just occurred to me that a likely misunderstanding
might be that a particular object needs to be presented to
the eye. I forget the exact circumstances. Is there some
object that might make sense?

I have tried every object I have. No clicking sound for anything. Really weird. It might be a bug in this version.

Maybe it doesnt work with triggering happenings on other levels? I really have no idea. :(

CSBuild reports wall switches as being operated by:
1) Anything
2) Hand
3) Special object

This particular switch is operated by 2) - Hand.
Perhaps The DMJ code interpreted this to mean "Empty hand"?

Edit: CSBuild reports that this switch has an audible click.

I tried it now. First I went to center of dragon maze. Then, directly to DDD. Trap skeleton, opening the grate. Then press the eye with no object in hand. Still no success, and stil no "click sound".

Quite annoying. I read somewhere that you should go to more places to move a rock to multiple locations that would "permantly seal it". But this seems much more logical, and I can't remember where I saw that text. :/

OK....I thought I would try this for myself. But I have run into
two show-stoppers:

1) I downloaded Dungeon Master for Android. It works. But I cannot figure
out how to open an 'Inventory' screen. Probably some obvious Android sort
of thing, but this is my first experience with Android and I am lost.

2) I don't know how to get 'Chaos Strikes Back' for Android.

ad1.
tapping character health/stamin/mana bars

ad2. you need to select new dungeon after tapping Enter and choose CSB_a.dat,
android version is basicaly ported android java and if u have not CSB_a.dat (not remember cuz i have heavly modded version and i added many custom dungeons) you can use Map converter v1.3 to convert one to android version. Some links developer website:

I also had huge problems before I understood how to open the inventory. And with starting CSB and not DM.

Good luck with the game, and be careful when you save the game. Sometimes it crashes, and then it crashes when you load that game.

I am really looking forward to see if you can close that $%#$#&#%@% pit. :)

I quit.

I played CSB for Android on my 7 inch tablet for about three hours.
The first hour was spent learning how to use Android and the interface.
It was no fun whatsoever. It felt like an Android program written in
Java pretending to be a Windows program written in C++ pretending
to be an Atari program written in C. Admittedly, my tablet is a
fifty-dollar special with a rather slow CPU, but CSB ran very nicely on
an 8 MHz 68000 with a display driver stealing every other memory cycle.

Nevertheless, I was determined to see if the pit could be opened
by hook or by crook. But......

Long before I reached the DDD (Very long before) it became evident
to me that this is a different game. I cannot believe that this is a
mechanical conversion of another port of CSB. Or, if it was, I cannot
believe it was tested by someone who was familiar with CSB. It does
not work. Very particularly, the exit from the Junction does not work and
the "Surrender Your Possessions" does not work. Moreover, these places
behaved differently depending on the save game I loaded. So it seemed to me
foolish to spend additional hours determining whether or not the "Eye and
Pit" puzzle worked.

Having said all this, I am open to arguments suggesting that I am wrong or
simply do not understand how to play the game. But until I am convinced of
this, I quit.

I understand. The version obviously has alot of bugs. I have never played CSB before, so I had no idea how the game is supposed to be.

This probably explains why the pit does not work.

I would wager the "Eye and Pit" puzzle works. Somehow. It might seem broken because:

1) A change in the design. You need to present some particular object, perhaps. Or the
switch was moved to a different place. The "Surrender Your Possessions" demonstrates
that the design was changed either intentionally or by misunderstanding.

2) A bug in the engine itself. You mention that the engine can crash when saving/loading
the game, so we know for sure that the engine has problems manipulating its own data.
Playing the game again from the start and avoiding some particular bug might cause
the "Eye and Pit" puzzle to work properly. The Junction is a simple mechanic but it seemed
to work differently for me depending on what preceded it.

3) Both. And you were particularly unlucky.

I would like to try the original Chaos Strikes Back for Java. So far I have been unsuccessful
in locating it. Can anyone help?

Hi!

I got stubborn and angry and tried again. I managed to get the god damn pit closed. First, I think the button by the pit has to be unclicked when you present the item to the eye. And I think it has to be a ninja object. I think showing an arrow solved it.

One should never give up. So, the game worked flawlessly.

I am now thinking about if I can download som Custom Dungeons to the Android version. Could that be possible?

Thanks for this! Any suggestion for a good custom dungeon that really works?
