Hello everybody!
This is my first post on this site, which is very nice. Congrats Cosmoo and Gambit!
About Clarke, I recall having read an interview where he denied the relation between HAL and IBM: it was just a coincidence, not on purpose.
And now a question about the dmute forum: have Ian agreed to move it here?

Hi Zyx, welcome back! Do you want to continue with your old ID? If so, email me and I can send you a password. (read the banner above the forum on the start page).
Yes, Ian has agreed, but I'm having problems with the conversion. I emailed him about it over a week ago, but he hasn't replied yet. We'll have to see what happens!

Yeah, About time you showed up!
Nice to see that you've joined us here, just let me know if you need anything or want to moderate anything. For those of you not familliar with ZYX, he's the kind of guy you don't want to give software to unless you want it broken into little tiny bits and then have it explained why it broke. So now the technical details will get even more elabourate with 4 of you here.. my brain will likley implode.. (George, Gambit, Beowuuf and now ZYX)
anyway.. cheers!

Thank you for the warm welcome!
Let's try to fix something this time instead of breaking it (maybe it has to do with my youth, I never broke my toys! Some kind of retrospective compensation?)
To Moo:
I am still a little too busy to moderate right now, but thank for the offer!
To Moo and Gambit:
There is something disturbing in the thread view, which the denomination of "previous" and "next topic" (if the topics are order descendingly by date, then "previous" should mean "newer".
Anyway "newer" and "older" would be clearer.
Is it possible to put these two links also at the bottom of the thread? (I usually read down to the bottom before switching to another thread)
And also, what is the meaning and use of the 2 combos at the bottom of the thread, with this caption : "Display posts from previous: "
Anyway, it doesn't work! I always get back to the thread I was reading before clicking on the go button.
And finally, would it be hard to put all the reply interface at the bottom of the thread, like in the Encyclopaedia forum? You can save a click (and some time for a modem user) and you can look up all the thread.
I just arrived and I'm already begging and complaining! :-p
To Gambit: ok, I will send you a email.

Some interesting points there.
I don't really relish the idea of changing most of things you've suggested not becuse they're bad ideas but because it's quite a bit of work for one person.. If more people feel these would be useful, it might be worth considering.
But bear in mind that a newer completely different version of the forum software is in development, and making big changes to our own little one will be a bit redundant if we later upgrade: some of your requests may well be in the new software.
However, I'll look at some of the easier options and see if they're worth doing.

Sorry Gambit, I forgot how time consuming is the coding!
I thought it was all a cut and paste trick, I didn't realize it would be much work. I am getting used already to the way the forum is working, you don't need to waste time on my bidings if they're not plain and simple to solve. Especially if I am the only one interested in these changes.

I do have one suggestion that should be fixed.. if you happen to know offhand where to change it.
