Trap Ideas

Post by Ian Clark »

Just a few ideas for traps:

"Choose the right pit" - where there are some deadly ones (see "death trap" message) and one normal one. To make it even worse you could have monsters (ie faders) at the top...

"Laughing Doors" - Where a series of doors are placed one after the other, and they are opened/closed by gigglers on pressure pads. To make it easier, you could make some doors bashable or put a space inbetween, to be pure evil  , have each door right next to each other, have you seen the amount of damage those things do? Also, the doors can be frozen so if you want, you could supply some magic boxes...

This one is coming direct from EOB2, where you have a network of doors, see this map <a href="http://www.geocities.com/ianlclark/eob2 ... rap.jpg</a> . And place a monster generator nearby, have it so that all pads between the doors must be weighted for the exit to open, it is hard because you must get monsters on ALL of the pads so it will make effective use of the horn of fear or war cries.

Have a different route open depending on what the characters are carrying, I have done this in my dungeon, where if you carry the rabbits foot, a different route opens and the original closes. I do plan to make the one which opens safer, in a later dungeon... At least we will be giving the rabbit's foot a use... <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :rolleyes --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/eyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->

Shops... This is taken from Toni's DM2... Place a door which is opened with a coin, and place a pressure pad on the other side which closes you in. Inside, place some teleporters which are off, teleporting everything back to the other side of the door, place a pressure pad operated by the party to activate it, and finally, place the objects on the square, preferably against the wall so the party can't "steal" them <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :rolleyes --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/eyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> , and when the party steps on the square of the objects they want, they will be teleported, along with the objects, back to where they came from. If you want to place a guard, place it nearby with a teleporter so it can't escape... just to add to the effect :|

Non-stop monster generators... Place a monster generator, with pressure pads activated by monsters already in the room, this means that as long as there is a monster in the room, they will keep on generating. This is most probably the case with the worms on the top level of CSB.

Yep, I have a room with a non-stop giggler generator and it is extremely hard to get through

My second test will be uploaded soon. I have just moved the site to <a href="http://www.dmaster.freewebsites.com">www.dmaster.freewebsites.com</a> to get rid of the errors on the old one.
