Problems with NETA way

Post by Anders Larsson »

i'm running the windows/linux version of CSB.

Information from walkthrough:
Exploring this new area(8)(watch out for the hidden pit!) you will find four open doors with a pressure plate behind each of them. The idea here is to war cry the mummies generated near the stairs into each of these doorways and close the door. When all four mummies are standing on the pressure plates, the wooden door will open. There is also a button on the wall that's in front of this door. This will open a passage to the right containing the cross of neta and a scroll spell.

my problem:
i've tried to warcry and to use the horn of fear but the mummies don't seem to be scared, they are only interested in eating my team,. any suggestions??

In general, I have found that the effect requires
some practice. Keep trying the Horn of Fear. With
the party member who has the highest priest rating.

On the other hand, it is possible I broke this in a
recent release. If you find that after 50 to 100
attempts (keep backing away if it does not work!!!)
then let me know what version you are using, send
me a save game if possible, and I will try it myself.

By the way.....a long time ago I solved that puzzle
without ***ANY*** warcry or Horn of Fear. I would
get a mummy near a door then run far away so that
he could not see me to follow. Then I waited some time
for him to wander about randomly. On occasion he
would enter one of the cells. I would scurry back and
close the door. It took a while but I finally succeeded.

Well, your experience prompted me to load
version 9.5 and give it a try. Worked perfectly.
Drove back the Vexirks and pushed the Mummies
into their cells like always.

You did 'BLOW' the horn, did you not? You did not
just wave it around or throw it or something?

If you are still convinced that it was ineffective I would
appreciate very much having a save game that
demonstrates the problem.

Yes. There is no sound. You stand with the
mummy directly in front of you and blow the horn.
The mummy will turn and walk away from you
instead of towards you.

It is supposed to be the same code. But there
are very definite differences in the compilers.
It would not surprise me if one or two differences
like this existed.

Erik? Are you there? Or is anyone else using the
Linux code who can try this?

Depends on your skill level
I seem to recqall gain a priest level or two on one player reincarnate with the horn/war cry not doign too much, then all of a sudden I got the right level and the mummy started wanderign away
TYhis was a while ago, might have ben RTC, but does this sound like what you are doing? (using inexperienced person at this part)?

I have no trouble to scare away cretures with war cry and the horn of fear. It seems to work.

I suppose you know, that fear has a range of only 1 tile?

i tried to scare some mumys now with the horn, and it worked fine:) maybe it was harder when i had a worse degree of priest, and i tried mostly to hide and blow the horn so maybe I tried to little in close combat then:)

It could e my imaginatin, but sometimes a bad ear effect means they don't scare until you do soemthing else - such as attack
Also, i think party size aso affects fear - i have found occasionalyl that a four party can do a fear part that a one person party takes awhile to do
