Lands of Lore: Throne of Chaos available! :D

Post by Relig »

FYI - If you haven't had a chance to play Lands of Lore: Throne of Chaos, you can now get it at Home of the Underdogs site!

It was free for a while and then they were selling it, now it's free again for downloading.

It's a great game! I've never finished it, but I'm working on it!!

Enjoy!

Buy another computer :D No really, I am considering this option: Buy another PC (200 MHz will be accurate), equip it with DOS & Win 95 (maybe 98) + the necessary soft and let it begin once more... The only problem is money. And people with such old crap still functional  .

I have my copy of LoL, but I'd like to have CD version too...

No need to buy an old PC for it. This version of LOL works perfectly with DOSBOX http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/

That's right, DOSBox is a good thing, but pretty hardware-hungry. But when you have another computer, it's just the right atmosphere :).

Actually I have XP and was trying to use Dosbox on this version of the game and couldn't get it to run. Kept crashing after selecting a character and was just starting the game. :(

However I was able to get it to run in windows once I followed the instructions in one of the text files and changed the properties of the LOLCD.exe memory from the defautl to Auto everything.

It ran fine after that. :)

I had another version of this game but it didn't have the voices (eg. Patric Stewart) and there's a nice info movie about the kindom history once you setup a character and save.

Tried downloading this, but all I get is a 280Kb corrupted Zip file -- it's supposed to be 111Mb!!

I've just won LOL2 and 3 on eBay (dirt cheap £2 each!) but wanna play them in order...

I never played LOL 3 myself, but it seems to be really bad game from what I heard... Just want you to know. :D
But the 2nd part is fine, not better than LOL 1, but still damn good.

It'll be nice to play the CD version with voice. I went through the ripped version without voice and it was still totally bad-ass.

I finally finished LOL 1. Whoo! :)

Had to cheat though  in order to finish.

Now if only I could find LOL 2 & 3 on the Underdogs

I bought both 2 and 3 off eBay -- couldn't get either of them to work in XP or even DosBox.

I still have a Win 98 partition though and got 2 working on that, but as I haven't finished 1 yet (and it's been over a year since I touched it), I didn't bother with it. Frankly, I preferred the DM-ness of 1, didn't really like the freeform engine of 2.

Though I loved the original Heretic and Hexen from Raven...

Hexen had very atmospheric & awesome weapon/attack animations.
I liked the mages lightning attack best (cannot clearly remember)
Would definitely vote for having sth. similar implemented in the next dungeon master!! ;)
