Sudoku

Post by Des »

A friend introduced me to this last week, and so far I have done it twice with her and twice on my own. It can be all over in 10 minutes or last as long as 30, but it is always very satisfying and keeps you wanting more.

More info: Sudoku, also know as Su Doku was invented in Japan but has recently become popular in the UK.

For details of how to try this unique form of stimulation, check out this link: http://www.griffiths-jones.co.uk/sudoku/index.html

Vaguely off-topic, there is a secret to creating a magic square of any odd-numbered size.

Now, bakc to the topic- who jumps off the wardrobe in the spiderman costume again?

Ben Franklin knew a few "Secrets" for even-sized squares.

Wow, you learn something new, even from a quick google search on that!

The lady lies with the left leg planted firmly on the ground and the right hand waiting. The gentleman with the melon switches on the battery and places his left thigh on the edge of the swivel table, keeping the neck of the stuffed goose absolutely straight...

... and then they do a SuDoku puzzle together.

It is very addictive - anyone tried it?

@JCG - don't worry, the symptoms lessen after a while *twitch*, *twitch*

@Beo - yes a bit of rarely quoted Python, if there is such a thing.

Sudoku puzzles have become a big thing in the U.S. I even have random sudoku puzzles appearing on my Google home page. I once tried a level 5 sudoku, (ooh, the highest level!) but I was only 2/3 finished when something went wrong with the window and my numbers were flushed down the IE pipes. My local ePlumber said he could probably fish the numbers out of the e-bend, but I shouldn't hope to be able to put them in the proper order again.

Speaking of magic squares, I recently learned of a magic square that adds up to 65 on the "broken" diagonals as well. (except for two) Check it out:

25 18 11 9 2
14 7 5 23 16
3 21 19 12 10
17 15 8 1 24
6 4 22 20 13

18+5+12+24+6=65

Ooh either I missed this thread when it started, or it was before I got into Sudoku...but I'm sure I'd been playing 'em as recently as last year...oh well, I think Sudoku's fun anyway ;).
