Ruby Key

Post by colinpal »

Hi

Can anyone tell me how to get the Ruby Key for the DDD level? I can't find it anywhere. I can see from the hint books that it can be found on the fifth level but how do I get there?

Thanks again

The Ruby key is, indeed, on level 5,
protected by Coatls and in a chest.
There is more than one way to get
there, of course. The easiest and
quickest way, IMHO, is to take one
of the teleporters from the Junction.
Each of the ways has three exits, two
via teleporters. One will take you
directly to level 5 and well on your way
to the ruby key.

**Edit** It ain't really as easy as I
made it sound.

No matter where you start (I prefer to complete all parts of Dain, but you don't have to as Paul already pointed out), eventually you'll get to that upper part of pre-DDD-Dain.

There is a very large hall filled with pits and couatls.

The ruby key is in a room south of that hall.

There is more than 1 way through the hall.

Each of the ways is a puzzle in itself.

The fastest way is one-way and bypasses most of the hall:
Prove that you are are a wizard by coming up with an item that can only come from a wizard. Kill the Couatls released, best you kill some of them in advance. Teleport to the Bridge. Go southward, don't let illusions fool you and be incredibly quick with your movement keys after having pressed the button.

Of course you can go to the hall itself by passing through some other illusionary walls. In the hall's central pillar there is the winged key that will open up the door to the room. You have to press some buttons to get there. But beware, some of the buttons will release more couatls, and one of them even opens up a pit that will prevent you from proceeding further.

I recommend the maps from the Dungeon-Master Encyclopedia to navigate through there.
Parting is all we know from Heaven, and all we need of hell.
