Dream job!

Post by Gambit37 »

I finally got my dream job...

I'm working for FTL!!!!

Can you believe it? Well, no, obviously you can't seeing as they went out of business years ago. :-)

OK, well it's the closest I'll ever get: I'm doing some web coding for someone who used to work at Oasis Systems, you know -- the biz side of Software Heaven (as opposed to the games side which was FTL). He now runs his own web development firm and we've been conversing for a few years after Doug Bell gave me his details.

I think that's pretty cool. :-D

And nope, I've yet to get any info from him re: his time at Oasis, and he didn't work on the games, but hopefully he will be giving me some info in due course...

'tis only a small HTML/CSS job for a couple of days, but if he likes what I do, then it could lead to other stuff.

The fly in the ointment is how to get paid!

PayPal take a cut, so I don't want to use that, and I don't yet know if I can cash USA cheques at my bank. Some investigations to be made I think.

SWIFT transfers: One of the safest and fastest methods of transferring money is via the system of the Society of Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT). A SWIFT transfer normally completes in a few hours and the funds should be available within 24 hours, although this can take longer. Transfer costs vary in terms of commission, exchange rates and transfer charges.
That's what I used to transfer my pennies between the UK and Spain. Each bank will have its forms to fill in ;)

As you're contracting now I bet you should be working ALL of your contacts to get work. This one has paid off! Good luck

That's true, though there is a charge for using it so it would be the same as paypal in that regard :(
