The Dungeon Master Codex: Release Date
The Dungeon Master Codex Release Date
Sunday 30th March 2008.
Please understand the following so that you set your expectations accordingly:
1) The site will only contain a very small amount of information to start.
2) Most of this information will not be unique or new.
3) The site is intentionally built in a way to easily add updates and reveal new information later on.
4) The updating of the site will then become an ongoing project and you'll have good reason to return on a regular basis.
I have set this deadline to ensure that I no longer procrastinate and actually get something up, even if it doesn't contain everything I would like.
My perfectionist nature in the past has meant that I didn't want to upload anything until it was 'complete' But this is insane given the amount of content to go on there.
I am not going to dwell on the mistakes I made managing this project. It just remains for me to say that I am looking forward to getting the site up and running so that I can get your feedback and make it even better.

Fecking arse! Wordpress today released a signifcant upgrade to their software. I'm using an earlier version to power the Codex.
I had full intentions to release the site as it stands tomorrow as promised, however Wordpress 2.5 is a significant improvement over the current version and it would be completely silly for me to release the site, unfinished, in an out of date version.
So I have decided to defer the release for a week while I upgrade what I've got to the newest version. I apologise for this, but under the circumstances, it is the most sensible course of action.

Sorry, I just don't have the time to invest in it currently.
It doesn't help that the upgrade to Wordpress is full of bugs and has made my current work unusable I'm hoping that while they work on fixing that, I can continue to invest my time in my business, and then when the software is more stable, I'll be ready to get the Codex up and running.

Not really, no.
It was a project I started a long time ago, well before the Encyclopaedia got to where it is now. Due to various factors, I never put it on-line. A lot of what I had was unique, but now the Encyclopaedia has it too.
But I still have some stuff that no-one else has heard before...

Yeah, I did.
I'm sorry I couldn't get this done for when I said, but other things are more important to me right now, such as trying to build my business and to look after my health which I am having some problems with.
The pressure from within to get it up and running is great enough. Pressure from without won't help at all.
You'll get it when I have the time. Thread locked.

Just as an addition to this, by way of explanation for those who might not know:
I'm a web designer and for the last few months have been setting up my own web design business. I therefore am in front of the computer for anything up to twelve hours a day and trying to get new work is an all encompassing activity right now -- and it's difficult!
So I'm sure you can see that spending my spare time in front of the computer on yet more websites isn't really that appealing after a long day at work, and with Summer now here I'm certainly not going to waste the good weather in front of my PC.
Things like the Codex require the proper care and attention and that means good blocks of time where I'm motivated and my mind is clear from other web stuff. At the moment, I simply don't have that time while trying to build my business and as I'm also trying to build a new life in a new town and sort out some health problems as a result of spending too much time on computers, you can see why something like this takes a back seat.
I only ever started this project as a hobby for my own fun and that's all it ever was really. Once it became known about, and people started putting pressure on me to get it done, it stopped being fun.
So when I get the time to have fun with it, I do good work on it and it progresses, but at the moment those days are few and far between.
I made this thread non-sticky so that it would drop down the forum as the announcement no longer applies. But that doesn't mean it's never gonna happen.
I am aware I am becoming the 3D Realms of the DM world. Nevertheless, your patience will be rewarded.

Don't worry Gambit, we've all managed to survive for the last 20 years without that information, another month, or year, or even decade is not going to change that. If you post it, someone will read it. And if you don't, nobody will die as a result. Take your time, enjoy the weather.
