When I found the magic map it did work at first. However, after walking around a bit it ceased operating and went blank, even after I returned to the very area where it did previously work. So if you don't have some devious dungeon mechanism replace the functional magic map with a non-functional one, I'd say it's a bug.

On a first glance Surgical Strike seems a bit like CSB in respect to non-linearity. I only ever got into CSB after having a couple of good maps and walkthroughs, yet I only really understood the dungeon years after having played through first on Amiga, even after seeing Christophe's super-perfect maps I took me quite a while and many more times of playing through to understand CSB's secrets.

So with neither the text file nor the magic map I find Surgical Strike too difficult to navigate in and thus will postpone playing it to some other time.

Was that in the *same* session of playing RTC. I.e. inbetween it working and not working, did you reload / restart the executable, or did you wander about the dungeon and suddenly it stopped working?
Sophia wrote:It uses the default wallset, though, so I'd think the magic map would just show up using the default, like it always did.
Yep - that's exactly what happens; the backwards incompatibility was only in the txt file - compiled RTC files weren't affected.

It was within the same session. If I'm lucky I still have a savegame from then on my other computer (my gf's computer), I'll have a look when I'll be there.

Also, make sure you're using RTC 0.37-- if you're not too far into it, restarting won't hurt as much. A more current one will probably introduce issues. I actually have no idea, but I've heard that things will mess up.

where i get this specific version? and how can i look wich version i have?

The download will actually say RTC_044 or something, and the version number should be on the brown borders as load up the dungeon select screen

If you type the file path into your browser and alter the filename to 37 then you can get the old version

can anybody help about this riddle?
i found the scroll inside a niche inside an secret area:

one and one is one

two and one is none

what is three and two

something must be placed inside the niche i think, but i have no idea, what it is.

If you activate the scroll in your hand, it gives ytou three answers as actions to answer the riddle with

thx for that (why is 2 the right souloution? mathematicially other will do the same, save and try will help ;) )
does anybody knows how to open the door next to "missing space here" a pit where the party stand in the air but things fall through?

Two is the right solution because (maybe :)) :
If you look at the numbers in binary and do logical and operation

01 & 01 = 01 (one and one equals one)
10 & 01 = 00 (two and one equals none)
11 & 10 = 10 (three and two equals two)

o.k. make sense. if you replace two with one and one and three with two and one there are other possibilities.

no idea for the "missing space"?

The puzzle doens't ring a bell, sorry!

The theme of the "missing space" puzzle is that there are spaces where something should go, and you have to put the right object or whatever in place...

Most of the needed objects should be in that area already.

I thought I'd give this another go as I never finished it before. Do I still need to play it under RTC 0.37? I'm trying it under 0.49 and *strange* things are happening...

Posted: Sat Dec 13, 2008 8:10 pm
by Sophia
It depends on how strange.

Marginally strange things are just part of the design.
Really weird strange things are probably engine bugs. :P

Tha main issue is being attacked by monsters I can't even see, when they are behind walls but in my line of site. I seem to recall this problem before?

by Sophia
Yes, this has to do with some changes in the attack methods.

Use 0.37. ;)

This dungeon can match the original ones easily! Reactor was very good, this one is INCREDIBLE!

I downloaded SS_2_2 from the link in your first post in this thread, but RTC (v0.49) says it`s SS_2_1. What`s going on?

The version number wasn't updated. Plus you want to use RTC v0.37 to play it -- it'll do weird things in newer versions of RTC.

ha! I didn`t knew where to find the oldest RTC, so I picked up a newest one. What are the weirdnesses? I haven`t noticed any.

ooh, ok , thanx Gambit!
Though I haven`t noticed any weird things, except for the red scorpions attacking me from a distance!!!
But... where can I get old RTC v0.37? Also, if I find it, can I play old saves *(those saved in RTC 0.49)?

I put the way to get old engines up in the liost of dungeons thread

You probably can't play newer saves under old engines

Thanx Beo!
But under RTC v0.39 it still says it`s SS v.2.1, not 2.2 ! Maybe Sophia gave the bad link?

As Gambit said, the version number encoded in the text file was not updated. The file is v2.2, it's just labelled interanlly as 2.1. It' doesn't matter what engine you run it under, the labelling stays the same. You should have the correct version.
