There is a difference between all four of the 'cycles' for effects (5th byte of wall objects, etc)

The 1st and 3rd cycles (0 - 3f and 80 - bf) are silent, and the 2nd and 4th (40 - 7f and co - ff) produce the 'click'
The first two cycles (0 - 7f) all seem to react instantly to button presses, whilst the second two react as normal, aiting for a presence on a tile, etc.

Example - the Librasulus trap at the start teleports the party onto a squaue with a 'close, needs constant weight' effect, direction north, that activates a teleporter to keep the party north. 38 is used so that the party cannot turn (instantaneous snap). If 78 or F8 were used instead, then the party would turn, then be rotated back again.
