One use for the mouse (DMBuilder)

Post by Sphenx »

All right, some of you miss the mouse, and that's rightful. So I give you the only one use I have for the mouse (due to a lack in my code).
When you choose a target for a teleporter, you cannot directly select and view the destination level (unless it is the same).
In the 0.83, you select the level by decreasing/increasing the destination value.
More simple than keeping in mind the destination coords, you can point the destination tile of the destination level with the mouse, set the teleporter target on the mouse and then change the destination level to the one you want.

Amazing, isn't it?

Finally, I fixed it in the 0.84, so you can now select a level destination with pageup and pagedown keys... and mouse really becomes useless now!!....

Eventually more than one use for the mouse

Post by Sphenx »

I hope this will make happy Gambit: the next version of DMBuild (not a 0.85.x version) will have a mouse that can do "something". Here is my current problem: what is this "something"?
As I'm still developping the new version, many mouse functions can be given.
If you have ideas, features you want to see and control with mouse, you'd better say it now.

Well I have not yet grasped DMBuild, too many key functions and the readme is... lets say not really self-explanatory.

But I'd have suggestions for mouse-use, for example:

1) placing the cursor directly
2) making "default" tiles (like wall/floor respectively)
3) "dragging" items or tiles to other places (copy?!)
4) drawing multiple identical tiles (like whole rooms)
5) covering teleporter targets
6) see monster/item details when clicking (no "enter *g*)

These are first thoughts, no idea if you like them or want to do them all, better wait for other suggestions as well...

Regards, PitD

1) ok
2) I made a "paint-like" style, you select a tile type and draw on the map.
3) Good idea. Maybe that's where the mouse buttons will have a function.
4) paint style do it very well

5) 6) accepted.

If you have other ideas, you're welcome
