Encyclopaedia forums migrated here

Post by ChristopheF »

The Dungeon Master & Chaos Strikes Back Encyclopaedia Forums have merged with Cowsmanaut's Dungeon Master Forums here.
The upload forums are still available at the Encyclopaedia Forums until this forum supports uploads.

Important notice: If you previously had a user account at the Encyclopaedia, then your account may have been migrated here. If you had accounts in both forums, your account should not be duplicated, but rather the posts that you made at the Encyclopaedia should now be linked to your existing user account here.
The posts that contained links to other posts at dmweb.free.fr have been updated so that the links are not broken and point to the correct posts here.
Also, some posts that were existing here and made by unregistered users have been linked to the correct user account. This is listed below when this has been done (even for some users who were not registered at dmweb.free.fr/Forum). The number of posts made by each user has been updated accordingly. For migrated accounts, the registration date has been set to the date of their first post.
All the posts have been reindexed so you can now search in every post on this board.

Please refer to this list: http://www.dungeon-master.com/forum/Use ... ration.htm
to know if your account was migrated or not (some had to be renamed for example). If your account was migrated, then your password has been preserved.

Thanks, my arms have barely recoered from typing those 600 posts last night!
*whew*

If you look at Gambit's posts, you can finally learn the last rank too : )

Christophe, this is absolutely fantastic work, I tried the forums just now, not expecting to get anything, and boy was I impressed that it's alrady back on-line! Absolutely amazing stuff, and it puts my efforts to shame. Out of interest, how on earth did you manage to do it so quickly, AND ensure that everything was correct? What about post counts, user groups, double user names, etc? It seems like it should have taken MUCH longer, so I am doubly impressed!!!

Thank you very very much indeed!

As for my higher rank, looks like I still have a lot of work to do to catch up with Fuzzface's double millenium.... ;)

High Lord...the name for the Grey Lord and all his folks, so it's like a step above Archmaster : )
2000 would have to be ranked 'argh, where's my life gone!'

And Gambit, the impressive thing is that i checked at about 11 last night i think, then 7 this moring before work, and france is an hour ahead in time!

I started the migration yesterday evening around 23h00. Access to the forums here is possible since this morning at 8h30 (french time).
That is about 9h30 of downtime.

I was not able to complete my work in the first place and had to stop at around 2h00 in the morning because I was too tired to continue.
I finished this morning (half an hour of work).

This was "relatively" fast because I had prepared and automated most of the tasks. I manually checked for double users last week and put everything in my script.
For post counts and user groups, everything is automatic, just a script to run.
FYI, the script took less than 30 seconds to migrate everything and update post counts etc.
The reindexing script (for searches, I did not write this one) took around 30 minutes to run.
The rest of the time was spent downloading / uploading / importing / exporting databases, and making some manual changes like replacing links to posts that were at dmweb.free.fr so that they now point here.

I have been testing and improving my script during all the last week and 2 week ends, so I don't think any issue will show up. Well, I hope so :)

I still have to make updates at dmweb.free.fr and that will be ok for now... until phpbb v2.2 and the migration of the upload forums :)

Absolutely fantastic work, Christophe!!! It looks like all your hard work really paid off -- it proves how important planning and testing are!

I bow to the master! :)

The general discussion forum was not migrated here. It contains posts about various subjects that would need sorting.
I'll see if I can migrate them in the correct forums here when I'll migrate the upload forums when phpbb 2.2 is released.
