One of the editors needs a name change
It seems that both George's and Andy's editors have become known as RTCEd.
One of them needs a name change to avoid confusion!
Probably Andy's should have the change considering that it's logical to associate RTCEd with George's RTC.
You may have seen some posts I made about a future RTC editing website I'd like to build. It's called "Constructor of Chaos". Perhaps this would be a good name for the editor? Though it ends up being COC for short which might be a bit silly...
Edit: Hope you don't mind me editing your post for a poll Gambit! - B.

I was thinking
Chaos Forge
I had a feeling I would change the name before release so I have installed any reference to the program name in a string that I can change easily.
Cows: Fancy making a nice new splash image for me (could be wider but not much taller)? I love the style of the shield on this site.

As a side note to that, it might be best to rename the "RTC Editor Development" forum to "Chaos Forge Development" (or whatever it ends up being called) and change the RTCEditing forum to be both the RTCEd and RTC Editing forum. To distinguish the requests, etc.
If anyone can come up with a better name, Im all ears

half of mine weren't serious..umm....i think one was : )
Chaos's Forge is cool, so three votes for that!
Actually, get a few more suggestions then change this to a voting topic anyway
Probably the only serious three so far would be RTCxEd, RTCBuild and Chaos Forge/Chaos's Forge ...CoC too, perhaps?
Any others?

Constructor of Chaos is a pretty cool name, but Im not too keen on the acronym Its a little too close to ... well... you see what I mean.
I wouldnt mind a name you could pronounce, even as an acronym if anyone has got any. Something like AMOS (AMiga Operating System). But not that of course. Peoples names might work.
CCK (Chaos Construction Kit?)

Names like 'Chaos Forge' don't really help the
uninitiated to associate the editor and the
compiler/game engine. I would much prefer
something that had the letters 'RTC' in it.
RTCEditor is certainly the most obvious name.
Is George going to maintain his version of the
editor? I had the feeling it was just a kind of
temporary make-do thing to break the editing ice.
If he plans to abandon it, perhaps he will agree to
let you have the name. Else RTCBuilder. RTCGenerator.
RTCHelper.

I don't know if George intends to support his own editor or not. It might make sense for that one to keep the RTCEd/Editor name.
I understand what you mean about Chaos Forge et al not being immediately associated with the RTC name. But look at the confusion over all the DM tools: DMBuild, CSBuild, CSBEdit, DMEdit, -- it does get a bit much.
One would need to be more specific in the naming for your suggestion to make sense. For example, RTC Map Maker might work better than RTCEditor. I mean, after all, editing is about modifying something already created right? Andy's 'editor' is primarily a map builder, so perhaps it's better to focus on that in the name?

Chaos Forge is a fine title I think. Chaos is directly related to RTC if you are not thinking in terms of the acronym. It' is "return to chaos" after all. Chaos being the dungeon and the lord in a way. It is lord chaos who made the dungeons and a forge is where you make things out of nothing.
To me it makes perfect sense and as such I'll be starting the new splash page as suggested.. as soon as I can that is.

I'd go for Chaos Forge as well - very impressive name and looking at the various editors, extract tools ... of DM and CSB the names really were not helping too much in a way of defining differences for newcomers by the choice of name... if the editor itself works well, and so far it has shown a lot of progress, the name will stick.
Although I'm still convinced a joint effort (one editor) would be better in any case, because after a while one of the two will gain overweight... and the other one will slowly die in terms of further development... but this is not up to me to decide.

Have you made a final decision on this Andy?
It looks like Chaos Forge is the preferred option. I think it has a cool ring to it. And like PitD says, even though it may not have RTC in the title, people will soon become accustomed to it. The half-Life editor was called Worldcraft and that seemed OK by people...

Heh, I just discovered that you proposed this (Chaos Forge) way back last year Andy! Take a look at this thread, your sixth post:
