Conversion to CSBwin of Toni's custom 'DM2' dungeon

Conversion to CSBwin of Toni's custom 'DM2' dungeon

Post by Paul Stevens »

Sphenx has very kindly sent a copy of Toni Y.'s DM2
dungeon, converted for use with CSBwin. Aside from
some easy-to-fix problems with scrolls, hundreds of
orphans, and a few harmless clones, I notice the following:

An Iron ring at 3(27,30) is operated by a Compass but
has a target of (0,0). Nothing there.

A pressure pad at 13(34,36) targets nothing. But a
Monster Generator at 13(41,35) has no trigger. The
target of the pressure pad is only one cell away from the
generator. Do you suppose it was meant to target the
generator?

If we can decide these issues it will be easy to publish a
CSBwin version of the dungeon.

Where is Toni Y. ???????? Anybody heard from him?

The compass is not used in DM2 to my knowledge, aside from direction-finding. Also, no iron rings or decorations on walls really do anything. I would be interested in testing this because I could probably identify any should-be things in it. I know the DM1 conversion is way off, but I could take that into consideration when looking for gameplay/puzzle issues.

Sorry. I thought you had gone on to better things.

But if you have a 1 GHz processor we can probably get you running
DosBox and DM2. It works pretty nicely. Toni's creation is fun but
not the same as DM2 with all the music, sounds, and such.

Hi. :)

The iron ring is accidentally left active. It's just decor.

The monster generator trigger is accident. It should point at the generator in next cell. I think I moved the generator later to make room for the pit drop teleporter, and forgot to move the target of the pad...

Many of the teleporters shuold be silent, but sadly are not since DMUTE had FUBAR'd bitflag settings and I couldn't playtest with PC DM with sounds... Any teleporter used as "stage change" should be a silent one.

Other than that, there ought to be nothing special to convert it as like someone said in a different thread, it was made without deliberate cloning or such.

Hi, Toni,

Yes, it seems to have converted quite well.
I posted the converted dungeon at :

http://dianneandpaul.net/CSBwin/Games/D ... CSBwin.zip

Should we try to fix these things that you mentioned? Did you
get the dungeon and try it out? Did you try editing it? Do you want
to? I can fix the ring and misplaced target of the generator but I don't
think I better go after the teleporters that should be silent.

I haven't tried the converted dungeon yet, the above was from memory and looking at the dungeon in DMute. I can take a look at the converted dungeon tomorrow in CSBuild and go through the teleporters and mark silent when applicable.

Ahem. Sorry, got sidetracked when I found out that my version of CSBuild couldn't open the dungeon. Which version do I need to edit that converted dungeon?

Hmmmmmm. I thought that almost any version of CSBuild would open
a PC-DOS dungeon. Well, I don't know what version you NEED to open it. But the
latest version ( version 1.58 from dianneandpaul.net/CSBwin ) seems to
work OK although it finds a couple of errors. You should probably get
the latest CSBwin.exe from
dianneandpaul.net/CSBwin/Size4Demo.rar

What do you plan to do? If you fix it with CSBuild then it cannot be
used with PC DOS anymore. Only with CSBwin. Are you going to
make two versions? One for PC Dos and ond for CSBwin? Or are we
going to leave the PC DOS version as it is? Or abandon the PC DOS
version?
