convert playfile.log to .avi or .mpg?

Post by ADDF_Toxic »

I wanted to take the DM movie and convert it into AVI or MPEG format. Is there any way I can do that? Thanks

You need a screen grabber program such as Camtasia. I used this when it was cheap many years ago -- now it's $300!

http://www.camtasiastudio.com

For cheaper solutions, try:

http://www.fraps.com/ ($37)
http://www.hyperionics.com/ ($40)

I hear FRAPS is very good, but I've never used it myself.

Interesting. If I wrote a .BMP file 6 times per second
we would get only 700 MByte/hour. Not too bad.
Then use any of the standard programs to convert
a series of still images into an avi/MPEG. Record
the sound separately and mux them together after
converting the frame rate.

Not that I know how to do this (write a .BMP every
one-sixth of a second). But interesting. It would be
relatively easy for CSBwin to write a file instead of the
screen and then another program could post-process
this data to assemble the pieces of the screen and
make sure the resulting images are exactly the right
distance apart by inserting/deleting frames (so the
synch with the sound track would work easily). You could
easily put 8-hours on a single-layer DVD.

If it is better than the the 'Dungeon Master' movie I will may have to watch.

The CSBwin Movie/Record option works very well in short stretches, but I cannot see it being worthwhile in a longer format.

I have two screen recorders(I suppose that's what you mean by Screen Grabber) they are both trials, so they are tagged with the name of the program, but the thing with the screen recorders is(as I discovered with my DM tutorial) is that it doesn't show space by space and it may look skippy.
I checked out FRAPS. It seems(from what it says there) that it may fix this skippy problem.
