Searching for the REAL Gor Coin

Post by LordLibrasulus »

Searched the web like mad, but no one seems to sell CSB with the GOR coin included...

Anyone a hint for me, where to buy CSB with all the goodies (coin/map)?

I would prefer the Amiga version, but desperate as i am, i would also
take the Atari (arghh, what disgusting word ;-) ) version.

I found so many of these: Image :P

But i want THIS: Image

Muahaha, I have a Gor coin, and the CSB paper-map thing. Maybe if you try online places like eBay or whatever there may be someone selling it. I think this has been mentioned before somewhere on this forum.

Searched Google, eBay, other auction platforms, retrogaming fansites/shops...
Still no results. There are a few CSB's out there with box and disks in good condition, but no GOR coin at all.

You'll get lucky eventually -- I got a few CSBs off eBay without it, then a couple turned up with it included so I got them too! :)

There was actually a REAL coin made?

Are there any close-up, detailed pictures of it?

I was delighted to get one in my copy of ST CSB, and I still have it to this very day. It's like having a real piece of the DM universe...

As far as box condition is concerned, the packaging was pretty flimsy, so you may struggle to get a good-looking copy.

Must take a look at eBay, now that you've mentioned it!

I'm no metallurgist, so I can't say what it's made of, but (from memory) the Gor Coin is about the same size as a US quarter or a UK 10p piece, and is just a little bit lighter than those coins.

Ooh, just be careful you don't try using it in a phone booth or a vending machine!

Might get blasted by a fireball or something...

Its oxidised somewhat.
Tha could add to it's authenticity, of course. Heap on extra pennies for that.

I would love to see the *rusty coin of PaulH(no offence ; ), the
pile of coins from Gambit(hopefully you have more than one?) and
yes, basically all different kinds of the same coin of everyone here on
the forum. yup.

It's no broken leg if I won't see any pics, but I think it would be cool to show off your coins...then again maybe not.. whatever.
forget it. do what you like :)

nice! Draconic Majesty's one looks a bit different than the one from the dm&csb encyclopaedia.. although it
is an identical coin. That is cool and fresh. Thanks for showing :)

I think the only difference is that the "face" on mine appears to have pupils to its eyes, when compared to the scan at the Encyclopedia - oh, and its a good deal less shiny. I did try to get some pics comparing it in size to "real" coins, but they didn't come out too well. I may give that another try when time permits.

Glad to be of service to the DM community!

The one on the encyclopedia scan has pupils too - it's just harder to make them out because of the different lightsource.

Here's mine, placed alongside a UK penny and a rule for size reference. Every time the scanner passed over the face of the coin a monster generated somewhere. It's true.

It's only the size of a penny?

That's... kinda disappointing. I was expecting it to be the size of a 10p piece.

How about the rim? is it relatively broad or flat?
If this goes on, I will need to get one! ;)
(nice picture there as well, Sabreman).

I cant get my camera to give results like that! The coin feels very light, almost plasticky.

Has anyone ever noticed that the Gor Coin in Japanese versions is slightly different than the one from US/Europe?
