A Nightmare Strikes Back v0.1 (Demo for RTC)

Post by Leon79 »

Well here it is, my very first custom dungeon using RTC. Its only a 3 level demo and shouldn't really take that long to complete. I'm just putting it out for feedback and guidance at the moment. I'm still in the process of designing new wall bitmaps so the layout is basic DM for the moment.

Have fun, your comments and feedback will as ever be helpful.

My main comment and criticism at this point is one of "feel."
To me, this felt like playing a DM dungeon. What I mean is, it didn't have that "horror" feel to it that you seemed to be trying for. The light spell being effective was a definite weakness in my book, and perhaps the magic system on the whole should be looked at. Also, the numerous minor fights gave it more of the DM feel. My last bit of criticism is something that probably can't be helped using the RTC engine, but I did notice you can sleep and nothing bad happens. ;)
I hope I have been constructive and not discouraging. :)

Thanks for the swift response. Far from being discouraging your feedback has given me some good advice, and spawned a few new ideas in the process.

Thanks.

Sorry no one else has given you feedback yet, as you might be able to tell alot of us tend to gte busy with other things, and you can also find people can try somehting and if its fine won't actually give feedback - hopefully as a long time lurker you may have realised that!

Also, of course, others might just be waiting for the full game :D I'll try to give your 0.2 a look!

Ok time for an update. I haven't really had that much time to devote myself to my custom dungeon lately. But now I have some free time I'll get back to it.

Never fear 0.2 will soon be here

Since there doesn't seem to be a valid link anymore - does anyone still have this dungeon and/or version information about it?

wow has it really been three years since this thread :)

Yes i still have the copy of this dungeon on my old PC. I'll upload it soon, although to be honest nothing more was worked on. But having read this Im finding inspriation to finish the dungeon once more.

Stay tuned and let's hope it takes less than three years for me to return :)

Hi Leon, good to hear that. There are too many unfinished projects floating around, so I'd love to see your dungeon finished. :)

It has been quite a while, and RTC is no longer being worked on.
Depending on how much you've put into this dungeon you might want to reconsider your choice of platform.

Its a shame that RTC is no longer updated :(

I probably will consider development on a different playform, just need to choose one..

It sure is a shame, but don't lose all hope yet. When someone puts out that amount of effort, they usually come back. Look into why RTC has not been followed up on. With the right amount of praise and love for RTC, GG just might come back. Maybe if people didn't attack the engine so harshly, and try to force out the code, we'd all be building fantastic RTC dungeons. GG must be a wizard, the engine is incredible, it has a few quirks, but I bet they are fixed.
