Eye of the Beholder question

Was it ever possible to go above ground in the original Eye of the Beholder game? I seem to remember it was hinted at a few times in the manual and I have a vague recollection of perhaps seeing a screenshot.

I remember it said in the book that giant leeches could be found above ground too. I never found a way to get up there though.

Eye of the beholder 1 was completely underground. I know of no way of going above ground. Maybe they wanted to implement above ground and didnt?

There are no overground maps in the data files, so I guess that's means "no".

when you finish the game you go above underground, dunno whether that counts, though!

Yeah, and before the game starts, you are also above ground... But no, the game itself never had any playable area that wasn't underground.

EOB2 says it would feature above ground environment. But actually, those maps are just a tiny bit of surrounding of the dungeon entrance, and most of the game takes place underground once more.

Yeah, I vividly remember about the criticism EOB2 got for that tiny forest in the PowerPlay review. But I don't think it's that bad that there is little moving above ground. The original was called "Dungeon" Master for a reason.

Actually a great part of EOB2 is not underground but in the three towers of Darkmoon.. So in fact it's above ground! ;)
