Zed5duke you really should fix the dead-ends. Best way of course is to do like Sophia: puzzles which are simply too hard to do with only quessing. But if you still prefer punishing, you could do like everyone else recommaded: warn the player that the party anymore has no changes. But you're right, it might be harsher punishment, thus better if they cannot tell it immendently after. If you do think so provide your dungeon with save points with none of them at place where it's possible to be when at dead-end, this way you can still run into dead end without possiblity to tell it, BUT you cannot save when at it, so at least your save games are undangered.

Hey I finished it without finding a dead end. I must be either a freak or darn right lucky!

Welcome to the forums!

It may be luck too, BUT you are very very cauctious, and can think things in right way if you did it that easily. Well done!

Since I'm currently gathering version information and backup data:

Am I right in assuming that Black Gate was entirely created and compiled and tested and played with RTC/RTCEd V0.49?

Would you maybe be willing to provide the source files for backup purposes, please? Of course only you decide whether they are just stored or whether they would be released publicly.

Even if dont solve puzzle, you will be able to finish game, because when some dumb idea not work, you will return and try another until make progress. But with dead ends such mathod will not work: when you dont understand what to do then will chose wrong way and this will kill player totally, one mistake and need start again.

In this game was no dead ends, just someone relase trap and play without savegame, or was too blind to see key. But am think about make dungeon full of real traps, it will be called "Dead End" of course.
I just had a short go to your game.
I see you do not want to listen what they tell you about dead ends in your dungeon.
Well...... Because of your attitude and knowing this is a terrible game, I will dump it to the trash can.
