song in my head.. what's yours?
you know the one.. you have a tune in your head.. and sure it changes from day to day.. but it's that gnawing line of lyrics that keep going over and over in your skull and seeping out occasionally out of your lips..
well.. it's your chance to subject the rest of us to it.. post the song if you can.. or if you can't post the line of lyrics and maybe someone will know it and find it for ya.
Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical, liberal, fanatical, a criminal.

Re: song in my head.. what's yours?
Right now, I am listening to plain old game music from Atari ST and Amiga.
With the technical constraints at that time, I must say the composer were geniuses.
Just listen to "Agony" (Exotica list of Amiga games)
If anyone remembers and old Atari ST game with good music and where to find it, I'm interested.
Because Atari ST was the best in this respect.

I've done exactly what Joramun has done and what Zed is probably doing at the moment (see his work in progress) - go to an archive of olde school music and listen to them, with the intent of using it as atmosphere in dungeons.
Try http://www.mirsoft.info/gamemids.php for the MIDI format I was trying to stick to. They also have a list of MOD files.

Ever since the 'Daybreakers' trailer, had this one floating around my head.

Re: song in my head.. what's yours?
Due to our recent acquisition of a certain version of the PS3 game "Rock Band", I currently have the line...umm actually no, I can't really list a specific line because there are so many and they're sung quite fast and by the time I start typing which line is in my head it will have changed...one of the lines, however, is "I am the egg-man (woo!)" .

You may not believe it - but 20 years ago I played in a band - and wrote a song 'dungeon master'!
Later on, when my system was big enough, I worked it out to a 20 min. monster, but splitted it into parts.
Here you can try two of the parts - those are three Roland synthis (and a very few soundcard sounds) only. The whole project is MIDI on 64 tracks. Sounds are a bit dusty today - it was all made in 1994.

WOW, Bit, that's fantastic. I wish that music like this was in some of the custom dungeons. Now, this will definitely be in my head!
Finally playing and immensely enjoying the awesome Thimbleweed Park-a-reno!
Re: song in my head.. what's yours?
Great, the DM-devoted song!! :0 It deserves to be used in some custom dungeon!!! :0

Re: song in my head.. what's yours?
I knew this would be a good idea.. I knew it would lead me to new songs in the process.. little did I know, there would be new DM inspired ones too
Re: song in my head.. what's yours?
In the dark ages, the story was already written
To a land at the end of the universe
you have to sail there, told the tale her, on a dragon's neck
With the staff of the priest take control about the beast
you just have to find it in a dungeon in the east
Don't be too late - don't hesitate - at devil's gate
Devils right in front of me, demons from behind
to the left there are a thousand feet, at the right there stands a giant
then she speaks the magic spell and the staff begins to glow
now devils eat my fireballs - who wants to be my foe
Battle
When she entered the dragon's cave, the staff was out of power
so she used the mightiest weapon a woman has - and danced
Dance for the dragon
To a land at the end of the universe
you have to sail there, told the tale her, on a dragon's neck
With the staff of the priest take control about the beast

Re: song in my head.. what's yours?
I was just thinking - some of the versions of Dungeon Master (don't ask me which ones) had a music on the entrance screen. Perhaps Bit's pieces reminded it to me. I can't find it anywhere now. Does anybody knows where to get it? Thanks.

They look like a gang of 'old folks home' candidates.
"Wuuf's big brother"
Re: song in my head.. what's yours?
Actually, the normal PC DM has music at the entrance, just you won't hear it unless, like me, you played it under pure DOS in win98 with a really old soundcard
Great compositions Bit!

Re: song in my head.. what's yours?
Thanks for all the compliments - that was unexpected.
Perhaps I really should take a look at those now pretty old instruments.
Maybe there are batteries inside.
When I finished those pieces, Vangelis just released the 'Conquest for paradise'. And again he was technically miles ahead. At that point I really had enough...
But last year a friend of mine showed me a lot of VST-plugins (those are virtual instruments for sequencing software). I collected a lot of them, and also a lot of effect-plugins. And I do have sources of virtual synthesizers (which I couldn't merge with that damned Win-MIDI-Interface so far - evil lags all the time). So, if I can get out of that current 'job' and will have some time again, I probably return to that again. All I need is time, time, and more time.
Currently I love easy listening like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpoIxKkJ1G4&feature=fvw
Then I got always an open ear for very uncommon music of the eastern europeans: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tges_HL3 ... re=related
or the synthis in that:
http://www.myvideo.de/watch/5734020/Lil ... cial_Video
(she really has naughty lyrics )
Fireflies of owl city is also in my ear atm.
And btw: Beyonce has really deserved those grammys. Best voice in that business - with distance...
But - music is all about taste, and some like to bite in soap:

Enjoyed your music, Bit. Very impressive - made me think of Eloy.
Re: song in my head.. what's yours?
I think it was used in this episode of The Simpsons where Homer is on the spaceship, eating the Space Chips, right?

Now there's a true fan! By the way, that's probably my favorite Simpsons episode. Kent Brockman with his "Hail Ants" sign always cracks me up.
Re: song in my head.. what's yours?
Yeah, many great bits. I just remember Homer finding the rod, then threateneing to beat his fellow astroanut anyway.

The old dogs of Czech blues strike back:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqg7vtiB ... re=related
The text is about a guy going back from a pub in the morning mist with a bottle of beer in his hand, his legs not being able to carry him. He sings "I believe you, I should behave differently, and for all these money I should have bought a big car, but I prefer singing my morning blues." This came in my mind when I was in the same situation today in the morning.
EDIT: You can skip the talking and go directly to 00:45.

okay. sell it anywhere.
What was it? Keshia? If so, then thanks for protecting us!
And if I would be them, I would engage those of Sophia immediately too!
This one would have deserved more attention, beautiful production:

This one here is haunting me:

And over the past weekend I again realized how unearthly this here is (listened to it about 30 times over the weekend):

Re: song in my head.. what's yours?
Yes, the guitars of Muse... and the dark lyrics...
perhaps we can combine that with my taste for orchestral dramatic and good female voices and meet halfways:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdZn7k5r ... re=channel
(Hold out for at least 17 seconds )
I love that more, like a mix of Jethro Tull and Uriah Heep and a must-see video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2sd8UMU ... re=channel
pure inspiration.
Unfortunately - if you listened to those ones, there's not much new in all their other songs.

Bobby McFerrin.. his solo of it is also fun to watch as he seems to be able to get most of it all in there without backup singers or recording devices

How he avoids to look into the camera - avoids all laughing - and then those two breaks. Especially the first one kicked me almost from the chair. Really funny! But - never felt 4 minutes to be so long!
Back to the main theme:
If I'm right, then the radio stations will make that one rush around your head over and over again soon:

a really interesting own style!
One thing for discussion.
Here is the 'known' one:

But - that's not the original. It's covered! Here's the original.
Heard this one day in radio - picked the phone and did not stop until I got the moderator who gave me all the informations about the singer. She never really made it - it's a shame - such a good production! (look at the year!!!) Proud to own the album. At least someone brought her to youtube too.

Just found another live video of Cher from 2009 - she still sings it - in Las Vegas.
Don't misunderstand me - I do like Cher too. But sometimes fame is bad divided.
Hope Betsy still gets a little money from it.
