Not sure if the silence on this thread was down to lots of furious java coding or not... But someones already done it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stumbled across this thread on the 'games like DM topic' http://www.dungeon-master.com/forum/vie ... et#p127752 and someone has modified the DMJ code and ported it to Android! Its up on the Android market under DungeonMaster Free and actually plays really well on my Desire HD.

It's been arranged in portrait so doesn't make best use of screen space, and the large screen helps as the rune buttons are quite small, but it's DM!! Hurray!! There's a screenshot on the market https://market.android.com/details?id=c ... 5tYXMuZiJd, and if anyone can read japanese let me know what it says!! (don't worry the games in english!)

I'm going to get in touch with the developer about a landscape arrangement, so any suggestions on the best configuration of stuff might be useful as a suggestion!

Yeah, I have been playing this for a bit now. The portrait mode is limiting, it is difficult to be accurate with an buttons. Runes is also a big problem - even if I take my time out of combat to cast a spell there is a reasonable chance that I hit the wrong rune. It would be very difficult in combat. Also text is, for me, unreadable. I am playing on a 3.5', I see that the HTC Desire is 4.5' so I guess it is a lot easier for you.

With a better interface it would be great, but there are always going to be limitations on a small screen. I view it as a good first step in getting a really accurate translation of DM onto a mobile device.

I still think it needs more than a direct translation though, you need to think outside the box a bit. Linflas's use of a rune toolbar (previous page) is a good example.

That DMJ you guys were talking is off the market now (anyone know why? copyright-related?).

There doesn't seem to be anything available out there. I'm thinking about doing it myself. If anyone knows anything, like if anyone else is working on it, or if it's futile due to copyright issues, please speak!

The game was for sale, with none of the copyright holders of the art, assets, or DMJ code it was based on contacted (FTL team, alandale, cowsmanaut, etc).

If you do anything, best to make it DM-like, with graphics and engine that can support a DM-like custom dungeon, but is not directly DM. That way any copyright concerns from FTL in the future can be addressed by removing the copyright assets.

Even for a free game, it is best not to use others' work - even if they available for free - without seeking permission and giving attribution.
Other than that, there is definitely a market for it.

If you have seen Legends of Grimrock - which has all the feel of DM, feels like the spiritual successor of DM, and started out as a clone of DM - you can see the way to go about it and achieve great success.

I think these were two different games.

The one I played was free, made by some Japanese group. There was also another for iOS that was not free, I did not see that but there was a thread about it here.

Both seem to be gone now though. Must be copyright.

Yep, two different games. The recent one that Beo mentions was the iOS (Apple) version.

Overall, you are better off creating your own scenario and graphics if you want to create a DM type game. You can use the step movement, etc - but you can't use anything that would identify it as DM, unless you've got permission from the copyright holders -- who still exist, and is essentially just one guy, Wayne Holder.

What I did yesterday: I downloaded Dosbox from the Android Market and used a DOS Version of DM. Dosbox can even simulate a mouse relatively to the touch screen, means that I can control DM via my Galaxy S4 Touch Screen. I WORKS PERFECT! I am satisfied. :) Today I try how it works with DM2.

Oh, my God! That's amazing. The world certainly is
populated with clever people. Now we need a
'Windows' emulator for Android.

Works well !! I'm playing without any issue (level 3 for now)
@eldigain it's a beta version, a final release is scheduled ?

Perhaps a suggestion, with a phone a spell book could be useful

The release schedule is undecided because I am working on my spare time.

We may continue to release it in beta as it is, as long as the unprogressible bugs go away.

Thank you for the answer

Which bugs ? there is a place where we can show the your progress a github ?

There is no one on github where you can check your progress without registering.

> Which bugs?
-A bug that creates an impassable road
It was corrected in ver1.0.21, but it is under investigation due to low reproducibility and possibility of another problem.

-Delay switch processing bug
If two switches try to operate one object independently, the process will not be performed.
I understand the cause, but if I make a correction, there is a possibility that other controls will have problems, so I am thinking about a workaround.

There is still a bug because it has not been checked ...

I'm french maybe this is related, but the changelog is in Korean as far I can tell.

Usually in play store the default language is English, but this not really important, it's just for information

Hi!

I have played the android app alot. Great job @eldigain

I have completed Dungeon Master, but I am stuck in CSB, and I think I have found a bug. There is no way to close the pit that needs to be closed to enter the Ros area in DDD.

You know, the pit you should be able to close by luring a skeleton in a certain area and the teleport behind and iron gate, and then show any item to the "eye", on the level below the DDD.

Nothing happens when I do this. It just doesnt close.

Is this a known bug?

Haven't played it for a few years, but don't you have to also push a wall button near the pit after showing something to the eye?

That only turns on/off the mist behind the pit. At least for me. :(

As I see it, You must first visit the Dragon Maze. Then present
an object to the Eye.

Yes, I did that too before going to DDD. Walked at the center of the dragon maze. Thanks for the idea though.

Or do you mean:
1. Get the skeleton in place.
2. Go to dragon maze
3. Go back and present an object.

That sound like a super weird order to do things...? Or
?

Here is what I understand.....

You must visit 3(31,23) to move the rock from 3(6,10) to 3,(6,11).
Then you must trigger the eye at 3(20,25) to move the rock from
3(6,11) to 2(8,28). The pad at 2(8,28) will then close the pit at 2(16,20).

There are other tricks that make the skeleton easier to manage but they
are not necessary to close the pit.

Thanks for your answer. Then it must be a bug in this android version, because I have been at 3(31,23) at least two times and have presented an object to the eye multiple times after that.

Again, thanks for your help.
