Congrats. That game's a tough one to beat, so I can understand why you feel the need to celebrate winning it.

Here's a little party for you...

EDIT: I also just noticed that was your 100th post, fitting way to hit that milestone don't ya think? :)

haha I didn't realise that was #100. Very nicely done if inadvertent!

I didn't actually run into Chaos. Walked straight through his little hidey hole and into the full ya pit.

How do I download Conflux? I found the list of custom dungeons, but couldn't see the actual download links for them

I also found it strange that Lord Chaos wasn't really much of a problem in CSB.
Glad you finally finished. Congrats, also on hitting 100, although I believe finishing the game was more of a challenge.

congratulations , I was playing CSB under CSBwin too and trying to finish it , it is really a great work thinking you are playing the original source code , but tell me , did you enjoy playing it in windows mode and not in a full screen mode ? unfortunately I found it like playing cards , but i have to finish it then play it again under RTC as I did with Dungeon Master to compare the two virgins of the game .

Dude, you seriously need to get over your butt-hurt about full screen mode. I could see your point if this was a new game, but as many have said the original was only full screen at 320x200. So either deal with it or do as Paul Stevens has told you in another thread and re-write the code yourself. I still have my Atari ST, and I choose to use csbwin windowed. So I'm asking you to please stop threadjacking these posts trying to "convince people" that your view needs to be catered to. You asked for it and were given reasons why it's not going to happen, but for some reason you just had re-inject "your" world view in this thread. You asked, you lost. Deal with it.

With that being said, congrats Twiggy. I'm glad you stuck with it to complete the game.
You are officially a Dungeon Master!

In all seriousness Magica, if you cannot work out the fullscreen trick for CSBwin yourself looking to the Conflux .bat file/config file templates, can you please simply post a request in the CSBwin forum for someone to do that for you, with the import aspect of starting which resolution you actually care about

People have gone to the limit of helping you with this. You will not get a generalised solution to this no matter how much you don't understand why.

Please can you let someone help if you cannot do this yourself you by actually telling people what you need (the exact resolution) and then asking very[p/i] nicely instead of irking everyone! And also recognising that you are very close to actually getting what you need, and your stream of requests manoeuverings for what you think will accomplish it instead are getting you further away.

And back on topic - once more well done on CSB Tiggy. Did you ever get in to Conflux?

Strange , I asked Twiggy exactly after I said it is a great work ( did you enjoy playing it in windows mode and not in a full screen mode ? ) this simple question you couldn't stand !!!!!! I don't want you to help me in this , I am playing it now under Steam emulator in a full screen mode and everything is fine , I am asking the man about his opinion and you didn't like that ?!!!

Phoenix , I am not talking to you so stay out of it I don't like your words and I don't need your advice ..

I have also posted a solution to this problem some time
ago:

Instead of making the image bigger, make the monitor
smaller.

Procure a piece of black cardboard. Cut a hole the exact
size of the image you wish to see. Tape it to your
monitor. Bingo! Full Screen.

very clever indeed , but unfortunately I have a better solution , I am playing Dungeon master original under Steem emulator and every thing is excellent , with that engine , I found all the options I was looking for , no need for the old Atari ST , no need for your cardboard either , and I hope everyone playing CSBwin without the full screen option are happy with it .

and by the way , it is not good to repeat the same joke twice , I really couldn't laugh about it this time .

While it is humourous and he knows it, I don't think Paul S is technically joking. It is the best solution to the problem described with the least overhead and chance of complication.

Glad steem worked out, I am sorry I assumed your comments were still based on a desire to resolve your issue. You are free to ask others their opinions, and should be allowed to do so without being abused.

I would ask for everyone's restraint in future, and apologise for my own lack of it.

I would say "Fortunately".

CSBWin would never have been created were it not
for the fact that Steem (and it brethren) had to run
on my 166 MHz machine and were painfully slow.
Other than that, the emulators were, and are, a
perfect solution. They are remarkable works.

People continue to ask the same question; I continue
to give the same answer.

I read your thread where you asked for a full screen option and that should have been the end of it, but it seems to me that you couldn't abide by it and had to drag the issue into this thread. Stay out of it? You don't like my words? LOL! Any time you post on a forum you take the risk of someone calling you out on its content.

You say you've found a solution, but then why was it necessary bring the subject up again in this thread? You're fishing for people to validate your pet peave. I see politicians use this technique all the time. I also think it's hysterical that you're taking offense. If you hadn't posted this so soon after the other thread, I can guarantee that I wouldn't have said anything... I can tell that it does bother you or you wouldn't be protesting so much. The real test of your character will now be if you can read this and just let it go. I have.

This is Twiggy's thread, and we should be concentraiting on that.

Now then, back on topic.

So Twiggy, now that you've completed CSB, do you think you could replay the game and finish faster? Also, do you think that you will replay CSB or will you move on to some of the custom dungeons?

You have not seen all of CSB until you have played
CSBWin's alternate goal......to clean the dungeon
of all items and all monsters. If you want a challenge!
I have done it, but only to prove it is quite straight-
forward and possible. Has anyone else out there on
these forums accomplished this goal? That is not a
rhetorical question.

I wonder if I have a savegame that proves how close I came to this goal.
Is it possible to kill all without having continued respawns?

At least it was my intention when I tried with my DM and CSB versions - to test
if the code survives on huge stockpiles etc. It did!
I remember original Black Crypt did finally crash placing all collected stuff on one place.

Bit wrote:Is it possible to kill all without having continued respawns
Indeed, it is perfectly possible. It is very helpful
to know where the respawn triggers are.

I think there may be one place that you can
do the wrong thing and make the goal impossible.
Does anyone care to guess where that might be?
I would tell you where I think it is, except that then
nobody else would think about it and therefore, if
there are other such places, we will be less likely
to discover them.
Bit wrote:if the code survives on huge stockpiles
The original Atari code was very quick to reduce
such stockpiles before they became a problem.
CSBWin will do the same but it allows the stockpiles
to become much larger before taking action to
reduce them. That is one of many ways that CSBWin
is no longer 'true to the original'.

Can you lock yourself out of the dead end by doing the door correctly/leaving too soon, and so miss the bread and water?

In the Amiga DM I played for long enough boosting champions for a CSB that never came that I had large stockpiles of items. I found that eventually the game bugged out on itself, and accidentally linked some item lists together. So I had an odd small zo explosion over one item in a pile, and if I picked that item up it would crash the game. And this item was a clone of an item elsewhere.

Otherwise, the game seemed very efficient at sweeping away the database overloads of monster dropped items!

I'm sorry. I don't know what you are talking about.
Where is that exactly? (I guess it has been too long since I
struggled with this game.)

Assuming it's the "Dead End", that's at the second half of Ku, right before Dragon's Den (where a bunch of Knights are coming up behind you and the wall opens just in time).

Ah, yes. The "Dead End". I never go there during
a normal game. I cheat at the Corbum Pillar.

But I am still puzzled. Where is the bread and
water that I might miss? And how could I "Lock
myself out of the Dead End"? Cannot I always go
back there via the DDD?

Sphenx wrote:Beowuuf talks about the "Death Row"
Thanks. I wrote the preceding note before seeing your reply.
"Death Row" is the one I was thinking of. The Skeleton Key
opens the pit and allows you into Death Row. The Gold key
opens the door. If you open the pit first, then you cannot
open the door because you will fall through the pit.

There is nothing behind the door at the beginning.
But....It is possible for a random giggler to get teleported
to that location from 7(12,26) and he may have an item
or two.

So...if you open the pit first, you may leave an item
behind that door and it will be impossible to fetch.

If I had my way, I would add an obscure method of
closing that pit. Perhaps by allowing a skeleton to
be released from one of the four prison cells and onto
a trigger further down the exit hallway.

The door is opened by a gold key. I suppose one could
also exhaust his supply of gold keys and thereby make
entry to the space behind the door impossible. So that is
a second way of creating an impossible situation.

All of this brings up a pet project of mine which I have
never even started. I would like to "Improve" CSB. The
previous paragraph is one possibility. Another idea I
had was to modify CSB to be more "Chaotic". By that I
mean that the triggers for various pits, doors, etc. might
be even less closely associated with their effects. For
example, imprisoning the four skeletons might open
the Death Row Pit rather than a nearby door. The challenge
would be to create a dungeon that still had no dead ends.

Evil! Fascinating, but evil all the same! Taking CSB to a whole other level.
