It's from tv. Might not be very well known outside the uk.

It was from The Mary Whitehouse Experience, and later Newman and Baddiel in Pieces.... The 'History Today' bit, where two old professors begin with a serious discussion that ends up as a childish slanging match.

"Well, the Industrial Revolution caused a shift to urban connubation by what had been largely agrarian populations and communities, and so forth. This led to very poor living conditions, and in his journal Samuel Pepys gives a particularly harrowing account of one man whom he describes thus: [opens book] He had scurvy, and rickets, and was covered from head to foot in festering sores. All in all he was quite the most ghastly apparation of a man I had ever seen. [Closes book] That's you, that is. That's the nicest thing he could find to say about you."

Yep... Bloody hilarious. I hadn't seen them for years and was watching them on youtube last week, and thought i'd see if anyone remembered the line.

Petty sure that's from "Dr Strangelove, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb". Which I've never seen, but I think I'm familiar with two things from it - that quote and the ending .

Of course, I knew you'd know it! The very first line of the whole series... I can still see the calm opening with Johnny walking down the forest road to the lake, and the great theme playing...

Yes indeed... One of those lines where I thought "Damn, I know that!", but didn't immediately spring to mind what it was. Great movie!

That's Frith to erm...I can't remember his name, but the first rabbit, Prince somebody (it's like Alfafa or something, I think), after being tricked into gifting him with the ability to run really fast and jump really well - in retaliation Frith then gives all the other creatures the ability to hunt really well so that Prince Alpha-Bunny and his descendants have to spend their lives hiding and fearful.
And so ends the prologue of Watership Down .
