I'm back from my holidays. More game guessing from me soon.
I just want to say a big Thank You to Saumun for compiling that list: it's fantastic!

Cheers guys!
My last one is from
Abandoned Places
for the Amiga.
Here's another:
@Jan... Not as long as you might think. I was skimming much of it.

Aha, there's a character I recognise - that's
Earthworm Jim
.

Yup... Point goes to Ameena!

That was one I knew for once (well, I knew the cartoon, not the game, but close enough!).
Another one:

No way that i could miss this one!
Age of Empires 2
... Loved it!
The graphics look sharper than i remember.

Correct! I loved it too - a very addictive game, and a hard-fought battle was always satisfying.

Definitely recognise
Age of Empires II
, where the buildings were actuall on a somewhat more reliastic scale compared to the people building and supposedly occupying them
.
Okay, how about this one?

I've no idea about Ameena's.
Here's another... and due to the popularity of the franchise, let's have the specific title:

I've been pretty busy these days but here goes a new game from me:
(hope the image is displayed correctly - Photobucket refuses to cooperate with me properly today)

Hmm, I'm gonna guess that Saumun's is, erm...
GTA IV
? The only game I've played in that series was
GTA V
so I can tell it's not that but it looks similar in some ways. Don't recognise Jan's but based on a clip I saw on the Yogscast once I'll guess it's
Saint's Row
, even though I have no idea what that game is even about. Actually I think it might be a series of games - I'm not even sure of that
.
Here's another from mine...

Nope.

Don't know Jan's either. I'll have a go at
Need For Speed
, but it's a complete guess.
Still none the wiser on Ameena's.
Ameena is close for mine... Right franchise, wrong game.

No. I've got one clue for you - the game takes place in one city only, in the city of
Chicago
.

Okay, I'll guess that Saumun's is the one preceding the one that I guessed then
. I just know it can't be the latest one because the HUD stuff is different.
Mine was
Munch's Oddysee
- both my screenshots featured the protagonist (well, technically deuteragonist as there are two main characters, but this is the one the game's named after) so if you don't recognise him then you're probably not gonna guess what game he's from
.

Right, so mine was from
Midtown Madness
.

Since Saumum said specific
title, rather than specific number, maybe it is not just another number in the series. What about
GTA San Andreas
? Is that a thing?

It is... and you're correct! (the best of the series IMHO)
I should also say that Ameena is right (for main titles) in that it's the one before
GTA IV
, if you don't count the 'stories' games in between.

Here's another... This might be in Gambit's territory!

Ahh, I thought games like
San Andreas
were more like expansion packs or something for the previous games, having never been interested in the series at all until I saw various Yogcast members messing around in the latest version and thinking it looked pretty fun
.
Okay, how about this one? You'll either get it straight away or will have no idea
.

Wow! Coincidence. I had never saw or even heard of this until last night. It was on Dara O'Briain's TV show.
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
.
On the previous subject of GTA...
Vice City
was originally meant to be sort of an extension of
GTAIII
, but ended up bigger and better. Then
San Andreas
even more so. I think of the 'stories' games as expansions. Depends on your point of view i suppose.

I had a feeling that was right, but I have no idea why - I never played any of them!
I didn't know Jan's or either of Ameena's, though the
Oddysee
thing rings a bell. And I don't know Saumun's current one - my lack of arcade knowledge means that I can't even guess.
Here is a game that I have not yet finished (must get back to if I ever get the time)

I've no idea on that one.

Yep, Saumun is right on mine
. I've been watching Dara O'Briain's show too, but that's not entirely why I picked that game. Seeing it on the telly last week sort of put it in mind, but I've played it quite a lot before and I find it really fun so I know it very well anyway
.
OB - If the ]spoiler]"Oddysee[/spoiler] part sounded familiar, perhaps you've heard of the other games in that series, the
Oddworld
series. The protagonist of the first two games (at least one of which I'm sure I've already posted on here somewhere
) is the second playable character in the one I just posted.
I have no idea on Saumun's latest pic. As for OBs, I've played quite a lot of ARPGs by now but that particular one would appear to be one that's passed me by thus far, so I'm interested to find out which one it is so I can go and look it up if it's one I haven't heard of
.

Yes, that's it. I knew the characters looked familiar too.
Mine is
Divinity: Original Sin
. Even though it looks like an ARPG though, it isn't. Actually combat is turn based, which makes a nice change.

I think Saumun's is something like
Rise of the Robots

by Saumun
No... but robots are involved, so i can see where you're coming from. I sort of wish i'd posted
Rise of the Robots
because it was hyped so much, but turned out to be terrible.
For this one, think late 80s arcade (ported to 8 and 16bit computers).

Turn-based combat in an ARPG? How would that even work? Urgh, or is it like in the Final Fantasy games (well, the couple I've played) where you get forced into another screen to have a fight and then back to the map again when you're done? I've played that game's predecessor, which was more of a straight RPG (the view was a chase-cam style) and very fun...
Re: Guess the game

That's why I wouldn't call it an ARPG, just an old school RPG
But thankfully combat does not involve transferring to a different screen. It is more like X-Com if you have ever played that (or indeed a tabletop RPG). It is standard real time until you meet enemies, at which point it pauses. The characters in your party have initiative and action points, as do the enemies. Highest initiative acts first, and when that person has used all of their action points it moves on to the next in the list. It makes it very strategic and tense at times. I'm not sure I would want
all RPGs to work in that way, but I found it enjoyable here.

Okay, so my last screenshot is from
Escape From the Planet of the Robot Monsters
.
This next one sold in the millions, so i'm pretty sure someone will get it....
