Re: Let's Kickstart an Open Source DM Engine

Hi, That would be nice. May I suggest a few points to consider: I'd put the game design on paper first. The original code has been reverse-engineered, yes, there are clones which implement their own rules, yes. But you need to put down on paper the game design. I wouldn't start coding until all game...

Re: DMJ for Android?

Hi there, I worked on DMJ a few years ago to refactor the code. Porting DMJ to Android is totally doable but it's quite a lot of work. Thing is you would have to recode the GUI entirely because it's not the same API. You also would have to recode access to resources (pics, sounds, etc). The main pro...

Thanks Linflas, I'll get back to you later about that (still a lot of low level code to do...).

I really didn't know that DM/CSB have been so tweaked regarding the graphic rendering.

By 5x3.4x2, do you mean width x height x length ? If yes, I understand that the cubes are sized according to the camera position, which makes sense. I was about to start a 3d renderer prototype to later replace the DMJava original 2d one, you just made me save a lot of time on this perspective stuff...

So that "cube" looks more like a 5x5x4 box. Is that about right? you're right, it's not a cube. it's a 5x3.4x2 box !!! in fact the whole scene is not possible in 3D, but it works perfectly to make 2D bitmaps :) Hi Linflas, Could you elaborate on that ? I don't understand the issue...

Rich naked women are harder to find, you know. I'll see what can be done. After all, if I'm famous and rich... Hold on, I've got Robbie Williams on the phone, we should work out something. [...] Do you mind if those women are famous too ? Robbie is telling me about a blond chick that used to be with...

Hi! What you mention is exactly the reason why i have done those gfx for DMJ. Unfortunately DMJ is off development and no one is willing to fix some issues... this is really bad! That is not true. I'm working on it. Do you mind if I use your GFX ? We sure should find a mutual arrangement, i.e. fame...

Instanced dungeon . . . of course. I don't know why that didn't occur to me. Lots of online games are starting to use this concept, with generally positive results. Yes, I think it's the way to go. I'll try that, stay tuned. So, are you thinking max four characters per dungeon, then? Like StarCraft...

I think each player controlling only one character is the best approach because it promotes cooperation, even if it doesn't enforce it, and DM is all about party cohesion (unless you play solo, of course, in which case it's about eating all the food you want and hording all the equipment). That is ...

Multiplayer stuff (DMul)

Hi, I'm thinking about the way a multiplayer DM could work and I could use a hand. I think there's two main way to do it: each player controls its own party, comprised of 1 to 4 characters. To cope with the space problem (narrow corridors, movement and stuff), parties are allowed to share the same p...

I never unserstood the dislike of subtitles on film -- once you get in to the habit of them, it doesn't detract from the film and can actually enhance it. I watch a lot of French films, but I don't understand French -- so subtitles are essential, but I would prefer to hear the original dialogue too...

Script language (DMul)

Hi, Currently working on DMul (Dungeon Master Multiplayer), I'm thinking about implementing a script language to create simple movies, like the ones you typically see at the beginning of DMJava. For the time being, I recognized some basic commands that allow to recreate the DMJava introduction movie...

Ask U.S. people why. They are really against subtitles whereas in Paris, my favorite multiplex theater has 90% of movies subtitled... and I'm glad it does.

Computer is from a latin word, did you know ? And this isn't proudness at all. The quotas of french music on french radios is to try to protect the french music market. I don't know if it works, and don't listen to a lot of french music (more into post-rock and 70s stuff), but I can understand the l...
