Re: Legend of Grimrock

I wouldn't call it "abuse", I'd call it "strategy". It isn't abuse any more than slamming a door on a guy's head in DM and then when they walk away, open it and wait for them to come back before doing it all over again is abuse. Or the "stair dance". Frankly, the monst...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

I'd say that's a massive difference and isn't something they are likely to change. It's a core part of the dungeon structure and engine, and also a design choice to stop the game from being too easy. Putting doors in the center of tiles might be possible with modding capability but I wouldn't bank ...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

If I understand correctly, there is one difference in tile design between DM and LoG, which is that in DM the doors/gates have their own tile, whereas in LoG it appears that doors are on the edges of tiles (hence I can't slam doors on the monsters). Hopefully there is not a limitation that prevents ...

Re: [RTC] Dungeon Master HD

Wow, great work! I was using an HQX filter to begin improving graphics assets, and had planned to create a full set with only this filtering. It seems you have saved me the trouble, and gone a lot further by hand editing where necessary. Now I can focus on just one version with enhanced color. Cheers

Re: Legend of Grimrock

What I meant to ask, is whether anyone here is in contact with Mr. Holder. With Wasteland 2's Kickstarter campaign reaching nearly 3 million, and the apparent success of Legend of Grimrock (via staying at or near the top of the Steam and GOG best sellers), it seems clear that there is a market for o...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

Who knows what Wayne Holder has up his sleeve? He still owns the rights, and is apparently trying to get SunDog onto smartphones, so maybe DM will eventually have an official smartphone version too. I doubt he'd make any money from porting the old game as-is though: Here's a question... does anyone...

I had been meaning to ask you if you were responsible for some of the artwork that I have seen from various sources. Re: Legend of Grimrock

Agreed. This issue was generally the result of creatures that appear in groups of 2 or 4, but after killing off some of them, it would usually take a few turns before they would get around to centering, but sometimes they wouldn't. Forcing them to center, or having ranged spells hit either side shou...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

I guess I never bought the idea that the characters would be incapable of aiming a few degrees to hit what was actually a monster, but instead would whiff a huge fireball into a blank area just because I forgot whether they were standing on the right or left. It gets to the idea of knowing what you...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

Hey, that is a good point; I loved the way that DM would introduce you to different mechanics one at a time as the game progressed, and then start to combine them. It taught you how to play, as you played the game. As far as the list of things I would change or adjust, these are basically the only t...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

I can accept that, it is just that what the player ends up doing is manually switching the character's positions in cases where one magic user has run out of mana and the monster happens to be on one side of the hall. It is an extra step and I always found the character positioning to be somewhat fi...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

I can see the reasoning behind how the runecaster was implemented in DM. I just get annoyed when the game lags a bit and I enter one too many runes by mistake. This is one of the most minor concerns.

Cheers!

Re: Legend of Grimrock

I also understood that the auto-pickup/equip would be for missle items, to prevent one of the minor annoyances from previous games, which was arrow gathering. For that matter, if _I_ were making a game like LoG, here are some things I would change from DM/CSB: 1. Missle weapon pickup and arrow capac...

Re: Performance suggestions to reduce lag

Hi, My machine is a single core P4 3.9ghz, so I don't know if that should be faster or slower than yours. If yours is more modern, that could explain something - but if yours is older, then something is fishy here. Is there any other intentional delay other than the one affected by Boots of Speed? I...

Re: Performance suggestions to reduce lag

This proves a lot! Try the Boots of Speed. That is as fast as the engine will carry you without eliminating the button flash delay and such. If it seems about right to you then we will have proved that the delays you see are intentional....the party Hi, The boots of speed seem remove the delay that...

Re: Performance suggestions to reduce lag

Well the need for more boots could be it, but again I suspect that my problem may be less to do with any possible timing issue with your code, than with the way that Windows buffers keys or is updating the display. There is some subtle difference that I haven't figured out yet, which could be someth...

I do have a character wearing boots of speed, but I was never clear on whether all characters needed them, in case that makes any difference. Thanks for all this help. I will try this out and get back to you. Not really weird at all. It's the nature of things. My point is, that it seems weird to me that someone owns a property like DM that is probably worth something, but not making anything of it. Take for example the case of the fake Dungeon Master sequel trailer released a couple of years ago on Yout...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

I'm interested to see what Almost Human's take on the first person dungeon RPG will be, as it won't be identical to DM. I'm sure it will have some needed improvements such as missle weapon management, but as an evolution of the genre, will probably not satisfy all purists due to some decisions that ...
