Re: New Player Question

I, so far, have no had dreams incorporating the characters in DM and I'm glad to report same. I suspect my wife would have me institutionalized if I started nattering on about being pursued by water puddles and eyeballs. I still have no managed a fusion. AFAIK, I have cleared the place other than th...

Re: New Player Question

I tried for fusion but failed. I don't have the rhythm of the thing, it seems. Not giving up but relaxing for a bit.

Re: New Player Question

Terkio - I"m sure being able to anticipate what I'll encounter makes for an easier and less tense game. I suppose also I"m in practice as far as being able to dodge about the place while giving a few whacks. I can take on many purple pairs never myself taking even a single hit. Saumun - I&...

Re: New Player Question

Paul - the game feels dramatically different with DM Rules. I find it tough to accept that this was a one time benefit at the reincarnation but I can't, of course, demonstrate that my intuition is accurate. I see a dramatic difference in how hard the Wuuf (newly named) PC interacts with foes. I'm ca...

Re: New Player Question

Paul, Jan - I never got any results with war cries. As to hidden qualities, I can't even account for the non-hidden ones so this was much too subtle for me. I never found any difference with or without the foot. Likewise, my small experiments with armour yielded no discernible improvement in my PC's...

Re: New Player Question

Paul, Ameena DM rules? I have no idea what this is about but if it means the game is easier, then perhaps that explains why I struggled so. I see there is a good deal of flex when tackling the foozle. I would have likely cleared the fire monkeys out first, assuming they don't regen which I don't kno...

Re: New Player Question

Even if you were to take Tiggy again I think you'd find the game easier if you paired her up with pretty much anyone else - even those who start with no mana should be fairly easily trained up to get some even if you have no mana-granting items on you to let them cast spells immediately :D. My usua...

Re: New Player Question

I think you missed the fun of doing Lord Chaos at his lair. Not an easy task when you don't know him quite well. OK. Here's how I'd have done it. Tell me if this makes sense. I base it on the video I saw. I'm guessing, based on how this game rolls, that it's impossible or close to impossible to bui...

Re: New Player Question

Also if you're on Windows you can put CSBWin on Onedrive and play it directly from there; this makes sure that if your PC crashes you don't lose anything. I think a better solution would be to get a backup which can restore when needed. After all, my issue with data loss in DM pales compared to oth...

Re: New Player Question

I'm not upset at all at having lost the savegame at the very end. I feel I got all the parts needed to complete the game so only missed a final battle which isn't really a battle but a capture of some sort. I saw the video posted here of that fellow who ran through the game in record time so saw the...

Re: New Player Question

Yes, a bit of bad luck there. I agree should I give it another go, I should be better. I'm not sure I will remember all the things I need to gather on the way and where they are, but I''ll surely be better than I was this time. I wonder how many managed to solve the game first time through without c...

Re: New Player Question

Hi All Disaster hit here. I had a catastrophic computer crash - unable to boot. In some ways a worse thing occurred. I had three backup archives made by Paragon Backup which I paid full retail for. I now feel like a fool because the software was unable to read any of the three archives so I lost not...

Re: New Player Question

That video was amazing. The guy has the reflexes of a bat and seems to have memorized the entire game. Also I note he had many one shot kills at the start. I wasn't ever able to come close to that. Well, I"m at end stage having the charged firestaff. During the conflict at that level, my wife a...

Re: New Player Question

Re: New Player Question

Not going to worry about zo kath ra for the minute. Instead, headed down to what I call L13 which is below the knights or, upon taking an inventory, maybe up to L3 / L4 to replenish supplies. Either way, onward by downward.

Re: New Player Question

Yes. I went back there and found that passage I'd oddly just strolled past before. I can't account for me having missed it completely. It wasn't subtle in any way. The eye responded to the Mirror of Dawn which I kept for some reason. I think I just forgot it stuck in the bottom of a chest. I didn't ...

Re: New Player Question

Yes, I"m playing CSBwin. I'm not clear where the 'end' of L11 may be. IIRC, L11 is right above the knight level. There is a small continuation of the level beyond the stair to L12. That leads to a small room with several doors opened by gold coins holding supplies . To me that's the end of L11 ...

Re: New Player Question

I all. The real me is still alive and Tiggy The Intrepid Avatar is too. Due to the inconveniences of being alive in a real economy, I took some time off but then returned to the Tomb of the Firestaff. There was a gorilla / golem behind a rainbow door. I dispatched it using a combination of the sword...

Re: New Player Question

The Inquisitor is a sword. A very good one, but you don't need to get it if you don't wish to. It is at the end of the corridor that is opposite the ruby key door. As for the winged key, when you go through the door via the ruby key... look for a tiny switch to the east near the wooden door. This o...

Re: New Player Question

OK, thanks. I have no idea what a winged key or an Inquistor is, but I suppose I now have access to the needed Firestaff if I either avoid or croak the golem gorillas so I'll either find out or not. I took a peek at the L13 because I could. Found many of those hub caps on fire. I guess that's soon, ...

Re: New Player Question

Hi All Update. I considered the problem after logging off here and had a bit of an epiphany: I don't need to kill everything I meet. So I decided to avoid the three knights on the east side. I did croak the 4 spaghetti to as not to be trapped between the knights and it but then I ran to the room whe...

Re: New Player Question

With regard to Skeleton keys, there is one on each level from 9-12, one too few to open the stairs on every level down to 13 but there isn't really any need to open the one on Level Twelve (the one you're on) because...well, why would you want to go back there having trawled through it and managed ...

Re: New Player Question

Well, Jan, I don't see how one can kill these knights w/o touching. If you mean dropping doors, I suppose that's possible but why do that when you can both drop a door AND whack them. I did croak the knight with the key. Afterwards, the same with the two knights after a tedious but not dangerous fig...

Re: New Player Question

Thanks, Jan, for the info on the fireballs. I've perhaps, come to rely on them too much and when they failed to have an effect, I was lost. I'll check out that CSBuild after finishing the game or giving up. Lately the game seems to be to be a good deal of tedium. That square passage which changed or...

Re: New Player Question

Wuuf is the one that looks like a dog :). I always refer to him as male even though it was discovered at some point (in some game files I think, maybe) that he's suppose to be female :D. He's one of the two I take in my usual team (the other being Hissssa, though both are reincarnated so I give the...
