It's just your dungeon (unless anyone else can prove otherwise!), so I don't think this is a bug with RTC.

Nope, they can't be removed. It is a indeed a huge pain in the ass, but George Gilbert (RTC programmer) said it wouldn't decrease loading time if they weren't there due to things being loaded while the animation is happening.

As above, it turned out not to be a problem with scalability. Checking through the code, RTC scales to 10.2 million dungeon ...

As it turns out, you were right all along and I was wrong :oops: - it is a specific item that's causing the crash. On level 2 at coordinates 24,47 you have a door ...

I've made a number of changes to improve the performance so hopefully this should help - I'll see what else I can do as well.

Gambit; I tried your dungeon but it runs without any pausing at all for me - can you add the line "FRAMERATE<tab>YES" to your config.txt file and let me know what happens ...

I don't think it is an issue with any given item in any particular place, simply a question of there being so many of them!

It's quite likely that you're hitting some internal limit but I can't reproduce the crash because I don't have the graphics / sound files that the dungeon depends on. Can you ...

George's answer was that the problem probably wasn't RTC, but instead the Windows sound drivers or FMOD. However, DSB uses both FMOD and the Windows sound drivers and has no delays in playing ogg files. In addition, I've written other ogg-using programs and had no such delays.

As Linflas has already pointed out, the reason for the default being 640x400 is because that's (double) the size used by the original game.

Looking at the diagnostic file, it's exactly what I would expect it to be (i.e. it's spotted that the file size doesn't match the text) though, so I would hope that it's correctly written out the error to ...
