Re: Towers of chaos

Believe it or not, it can be done. The trick for all speed puzzles is to drop as much of your inventory as possible. If you follow the pattern, the last switch will close the pit and open the gate.

Re: Towers of chaos

It's actually quite possible, but you have to get the timing just right. Each button opens access to the next button in the sequence, but you can't make any mistakes and you have to take advantage of illusionary walls. It's quite a tough puzzle, but it's definitely possible to complete. That being s...

Re: Towers of chaos

You're welcome. :-) TOC is a cool dungeon, and the only thing I wish it had was a method of determining the properties of armor/clothing other than trial and error.

Re: Towers of chaos

It seemed to me that those champions were really there for debugging purposes. If you just started the dungeon and are already at the sacrifice section, you kind of have taken a false path, so that may be why you are facing difficulties. By going that route, you've bypassed large sections of the dun...

Re: Good Grief!

It's based on Technical Documentation - Dungeon Master and Chaos Strikes Back Actions and Combos , so it applies at least to the originals and CSBwin. You do get EXP for being hit (Fighter hidden parry skill). The rope climb down action can be done anywhere, but it drains that champions stamina, so ...

Re: Good Grief!

I would go for more health, improving the lower stats. Adept -> Expert -> Lo Master -> Um Master. About boosting, Adept Ninja levels, I would go at killing creatures bare handed. About boosting, OOK and PENNY Lo Master Priest levels, I would constantly renew Fire shiels and Magic shields to always ...

Re: Leveling and stats

I've used moonstones and staves/wands to give mana to Halk. Begin with casting stamina potions as this requires the least amount of mana. After that procede to light spells and finally fireball. Strangely enough, if you walk into a wall just before leveling up, you get higher stats. I use the table ...

As far as spells go, the wiki is up to date. There are only a few classification errors, but that's really minor.

I have to agree with Joramun,
Spoiler
OH VEN

Re: Playing CSB again

Speaking of DM/CSB metagaming, after completing both DM and CSB several times, I started trying to complete the game with various constraints to increase the difficulty and game play. For example, try to collect one of every type of object and weapon, try to complete the game without eating any food...

I also finished it back then on my atari 1040 ST. I don't know if I found everything, but I was able to fiinsh the game mutliple times. I also remember getting my first SCSI drive for the ST. It had a a whole 20MB of disk space!

(fixed) Lua error when bashing door

I didn't have any problems with fullscreen with the test dungeon, but when I bashed the "it's weaker than it looks door", I got a fatal lua error: "Lua Function door_metal.msh_handler[100008]: base/msg_handlers.lau:378: attempt to index global 'door_arch' ( a nil value)".

If you've opened the winged key door in the couatl room, you have access to the chest that has the ruby key needed to complete DAIN. There really isn't much left to that area.

Re: Reincarnation vs. importation

I always reincarnate to get better stats. In regards to CSB training, fighter gives you the bulk of your strength and hit points, so I always take the KU path first. Once you have a rope, start ninja training ( climb down) to boost dexterity. If you have more than one champion, have the other champi...

I use rockpiles to close that pit. They're slow and don't immediately move from the pressure pad. Just remember to leave an object on the floor on the other side of the pit.

Re: Playing DM with CSB Win,

Yeah, deth knights, dragons, and materializers are the only creatures you really can't fight toe to toe in DM/CSB. Nevertheless, if you have a lot of time and mana to kill, it is possible to beat deth knight to death with lightning. It's far easier to just do the "deth knight shuffle" at t...

Re: difficulty of chaos strikes back

I also finished CSB multiple times on the ST back when there were no hints or forums. It was harder than DM, but now with CSBwin, I think it's gotten easier. For me, it comes down to key binding. On the original, you needed to mouse click all the runes, the player spell tabs and inventories. Now whe...

<sarcasm>There aren't enough graphics on that page.</sarcasm> I'm a little disapointed that this isn't a continuation of Populous 3. I enjoyed the ST version of Populous, but 3 was more fun in my opinion.

(fixed) Graphics Issue

When using the test dungeon and after adding Test3 to my party, I opened the door to the hellhound. When Test3 quickly died, I noticed that the skull and cross bones overlaid the health/stamina/mana bars instead of replacing them. Is this supposed to look this way or is this a bug?

Re: Game music you love, from back in the day...

Alternate Reality was one of the first real-time RPGs. Outlaws was an American Western FPS based on the Dark Forces engine. Yeah the dork ring was a let down. Those berserkers were the best source of exp in the game. The saddest part of the game was that you could actually make Mangar, the quote-unq...

Re: Game music you love, from back in the day...

I always liked the theme to Alternate Reality on the ST. I'm not sure if The Bard's Tale's music was the same on the PC as the ST version. My ST's disk drive is dead, so I can't check. While not as old as those two, Outlaws had one of the best Spaghetti Western soundtracks.

I've played many games with control issues, but the worst game mechanism in my book has to be a game that siezes control out from under you. Top offenders: C&C Red Alert 2, Yuri's Revenge, Homeworld, and Homeworld 2. All of these RTS games at one point or another completely disable the controls ...

Interesting device. It's hard to see where all the traces are going when they go under the resister network. and the 3.5mm jack. I came across this Discover the hidden 8 bit Sound card in your PC a while back, I'm not sure how relevent it will be in this case though.
