Re: Best champions - an analytical approach

I had never become used stat buffing. I tried it while playing DM with Syra and Chani. I started by buffing wisdom in level 2/3 whenever the mana was starting to hit the maximum. Later, when there was excess mana, I also buffed strength. I didn't try to buff the other stats, they seemed to be less e...

Re: Linux 64-bit binary and build issues

For some reason, this version appears to work fine for me, except the keypad bindings are a bit different in the config and don't; replacing the config from an earlier version fixes this. This is the first time I get CSB prison to work for me as well, yay!

Re: Linux 64-bit binary and build issues

The linked file does not exist (a 404 error). Maybe a wrong name or the file was put somewhere else?

Re: Linux 64-bit binary and build issues

Sorry, I had missed your reply. Now that I checked this again, I still see similar problems. When compiling "CSBwin_SRC_20190702.7z", I'll have to create "CSB" subdirectory manually, however, otherwise it won't link. I have put two tarballs on a google drive. First includes a dum...

Re: Some observations from a DM returnee

Not sure where you are getting the 48 experience point amount for a full power MA (Stamina) Potion spell Correct. I misunderstood the website docs completely. The mentioned values only form a small subset of the basis based on which spell experience is calculated. The formula is much more complicat...

Re: Some observations from a DM returnee

An optimal training method also may also depend a bit on whether you can just press down a key (unless you automate combinations). From that point of view, war crying is very straightforward. But if this is not a factor, based on http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=node/195 you can get 48 xp for MON YA spell wi...

Re: Some observations from a DM returnee

If I understand correctly, the monster attacking condition is satisfied (at least) when the monster is in the next square and is "chasing you" in order to attack No. Where did you get that? The criteria in the source code is only about the time elapsed since the last time a creature attac...

Re: Which route do you start first ?

Just did a reincarnate run with CSBwin's "You" and "I". Dodge around the worms for a while and do basic stuff, when/if the health drops low, go via the flask downstairs and take ROS from the junction. Supplies for the quick could be too dangerous and/or crowded with monsters you ...

Re: Which route do you start first ?

This seems to depend on your strategy and knowledge of the game. First time I played I did the "typical order" Ku, Ros, Neta, Dain, all the way through (also DDD). This was very heavyweight but I suppose a good approach to get to know the game. Second time through with only two imported ch...

Re: Some observations from a DM returnee

The formula described at http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=node/692 is implemented in the function named 'F0304_CHAMPION_AddSkillExperience' in CHAMPION.C in the ReDMCSB source code here: http://dmweb.free.fr/Stuff/ReDMCSB_WIP20210206.7z Thanks, found it now. If I understand correctly, the monster attacking ...

Re: Some observations from a DM returnee

Just for the fun of it, I played DM through again, this time with two characters, Hissssa and Chani, in order to try with just two in CSB (next step after that: reincarnated characters in CSB). I did train, however, this time also with the black flame at 12. Punching the black flame to get ninja fro...

Re: Some observations from a DM returnee

I wonder if I will try again at some point with a somewhat different party and maybe train less with the screamers and see how it affects the difficulty in the rest of the game. But maybe I will try Chaos Strikes Back first. There were some issues with it, but I think I'll post a separate thread on...

Linux 64-bit binary and build issues

A few observations based on dmweb and http://dianneandpaul.net/CSBwin/Games/. Dungeon Master for Linux x86-64 SDL2 2018-05-08 was packaged as tarball (worked fine). The latest CSB is dated 2018-04-21 and is published only as a binary file. You can use it by taking the x86-32 tarball from 2015-12-12....

Some observations from a DM returnee

There don't appear to be too many new topics, so here goes a bit a bit longer one. First a bit of nostalgia. As a small kid we got Atari ST 1040 in 1986. This was disappointing in the first half a dozen years as the friends had mostly C64's (and in 1990 or so a few Amigas) and there were not too man...
