Hmm...you don't need any others, do you? The zo spell is needed only for one puzzle (avoidable), the des ew spell isn't essensial either (monster blocks and vorpal blades take care of ghosts, etc).
I'm stumped .

DM Power gem explained (DMute)
To explain how the whole combining of the firestaff and power gem is done, check the level through DMute. There are two different activation types at work. If you look at the square, there are three wall objects, an inactive empty amalgam, a burnt amalgam with an undocumented activation code, inacti...

That's an idea
Has anyone thought of doing a quick tutorial for DMute, maybe showing how to do a simple puzzle that includes things like 'chesting' objects in chests/creatures, placing pads on pits, and creating toggle graphics for torches and switches. Hmm...

Annoying bug!!!!!!!!!
The level with No Body just froze up! The game keeps locking up, probably because of the monsters, as I could only travel a few steps after killing one of them. And now I've saved and the game at a freeze out point! Which is a pity, as I did the mildew corridor (whew!) and had fairly large champions...

Yeah, that would be cool
Less ? on the DMute maps! Would george be able to create a dynamic hex editor too so that it only shows the relevant hex? Or at least greys out the boxes that might not be any use?

For the monster description, I should have said bytes 7 and 8 contain the first monster's hit poiints only.

Research (5) - Characters (Dmute)
Anything cam be used as a champion 'mirror', though the graphics for the faces are only available on level one (so you get a graphical glitch as a face on any other level). Also, the activation is still through the object - so technically you can have an invisible pressure pad, but there would be no...

Reasearch (1) - Hex bytes (DMute)
Objects use different amount of bytes, even though DMute always shows 8 (2 ident.). Not including the ident, bytes used are: Doors 2 (see posting) Potions 2 (byte 3 is the power, each with a range for different experience levels, and 4 is the type) Weapons 2 (the first is type, and the second is cha...

Research (2) - Teleporters (DMute)
For teleprters, the tile hex is used for state and appearance, while the object hex is used for function In a teleorter, the co-ordinates are bytes 3 and 4, but are stored in reverse to pressure pad co-ordinates. So, if you convert the level (not global) co-ordinates to binary (X5 - X0, Y5 - Y0) The...

Research (3) - doors (DMute)
The tile hex of a door indicates direction and state of a door. 90 -closed 91 - 93 - partially (stuck until activated) open from 1/4 to 3/4 94 - open 95 -bashed/fireballed 96 - left half of door, toggles to bashed 97 - 1/4 open right hand half of door, toggles to bashed The above is for a east/west ...

Research (4) - Floor tiles (DMute)
For all floor tiles, adding 10 to the tile hex (3rd byte) indicates the linked object list (first object referd to by ident in 7 and 8) is on that tile. 0 is used for wall tiles, with 1 - f maybe indicating other graphics, thought how this works I have no clue. Sometimes the graphic will appear, and...

alcove cloning continued
the item will join the linked list, facing whatever direction..so all the items in the alcoves are present on each square, but you can only access the ones facing the right direction. It's just a nice quirk of wall objects. Unless you havealcove heavy levels, or are needing ways to get a few more wall...

Alcove cloning
As long as each cloned alcove faces a different direction, andthe rest of the faces are hidden in the wall, then this is gooditem saver (i have been lazy and cloned same facing alcoves onoccasion) Alternately, if we can ever figure out how the gameplaces it's decorative graphics, then those can be u...

Tell me about it!
Mine used all the levels, and boy do those objects run out fast : ) A trick (I finally didn't stick to, oops) was to only delete a level ahead of myself, so that I knew if I was using up too many. Cloning is a real pain and noticable, but it can also be a great object saver (plus you can alter the d...

Just finished it.
It's quite a cool dungeon when you get into it! I liked the interconnectivity of levels, the fact that wall text actually points towards connected puzzles, and the hard fight bits are challenging, rather than annoying or impossible or anything. My only question: is there a proper (hidden) end to fin...

To Zyx: check your mail! To anyone: upgrade?
Sorry it's taken me a week to get back to you, hope it helps.
If anyone is playing DM:Alt, and has an old version, then I will upgrade it for you if you send me your saved game (level 9 might be a bit too nasty otherwise).

The final version of my dungeon is uploaded (there had been this gold key graphic that has been bugging me, and hey, a few puzzles could do with tweaking).
To Ian: Could you delete my old DMAlt file for the filespace? Thanks!

I take it you are playing without the manual - scrolls are impossible without it! The first set of symbols are spell power, so aren't given in scrolls (lo, um, on, ee, pal, mon) The next set is: ya, vi, oh, ful, des, zo The set after is: ven, ew, kath, ir, bro, gor The final set is: ku, ros, dain, n...

One or two things for George...
I don't know if this will clarify anything, but... a) DMute seems to assign too high hex values for the 6th (graphic) bit of VI altars, alcoves etc alot..so for level 1, it assigns the value Bx rather than 5x, so that you get a 'garbled text 'graphical glitch (like ornate door/pressure pad glitches ...
Web address for dungeon
Also available at <a href="http://www.geocities.com/beowuuf/DMAlt. ... Alt.zip</a>
Great Idea! And new dungeon!
I've completed my dungeon, and it is available through Freedrive...I can also mail it to anyone (my address is beowuuf@yahoo.com), and I might make it available on the web too.
Right, now to start playing other dungeons again... : )

Building
I was building three levels in conjunction at the end, and it was more important to check out the puzzle heavy first one..so yep,two haven't been seen, but they are very simplistic levels so i can actually thouroughly debug them while 'playing' the game. I would never not check levels otherwise..too...
Dungeon
If anyone is interested, I am now playtesting my dungeon! A few kinks to work out, and a few crossed fingers on the 2 levels that haven't even been seen yet, a bit of final object placement, and it should be ready for download, playing, and ripping apart bugs/content wise!

I don't know if anyone noticed... (DMute - weight)
..but when you change any object someone carries with DMute, it does not alter the weight your character was on in the saved game. So if you change an object to a heavier one, then you risk having a semi-crash if you go under your weight (the game takes a minute or so to let to you move anywhere, an...
