Re: One character

You are quite right. I learned about poison clouds while watching Guillaume Basttard's record-setting speed recordings. Since I wrote the previous note I also discovered that the clouds are very helpful in getting a monster to retreat. For example, if I get cornered by two dogs (whatever they are ca...

Re: FulYa Pit Fireballs

I never saw this on the ST or on the PC. It sounds as if the timers got corrupted. In CSB there is a binary tree of timer entries. An entry out of its proper place could cause the process to get stuck. Everything that normally moves would stop moving. Off topic....... This tree is the only thing in ...

So you wanted to see the fireballs generated when you throw something other than Corbum into the FulYa Pit? But you always got toasted? Try this......On the Atari version or CSB for Windows. Stand in front of the FulYa Pit. Slide one step to your right. If you now turn left and throw something acros...

You do not run it in full screen mode. Run it double size and set your video to 640 x 480. That is as close as you will get. The symbolics are available if you would like to enhance the program for full screen mode. It is compatible with the Atari and emulated Atari CSB. It is compatible with DMute ...

Thanks much for the MIDIs. They are much better without the game.

Sorry. I played the game but I was not too happy with it. I have the
MIDIs playing in the background while I do my other work. Neat!

I found the problem with the damage numbers having the

a while unless something more significant gets fixed.

Version 4.2 has an 'Attack Trace' mode that, along with the source code, the ASCII dump, and some playing experience, will help you figure out what is happening when you 'Cleave' or 'Stab', or whatever. I found the error. When computing the correction, I was supposed to divide by eight. I multiplied by eight. Then the minimum came into effect. And everything got set to about 30. Re: reincarnation (vs. amiga version)

I just got out the Atari version and played it on an emulator. It seems that you are right. CSB for Windows does make the numbers too small. Hmmmm. I suppose I should try to fix this. But it messes up the speed playing competition. Those low numbers make getting started very difficult and those are ...

in the binaries area. Filenames are:

CSBMovie2.zip
CSBMovie3.zip
CSBMovie4.zip

Each is about one-half megabyte.

If you can read C-code, get the source for CSB for windows
(from the DM Encyclopaedia site in the clones area).
Look at the rather short function named AdjustSkills.
They tell me that Dungeon Master and CSB use the same code
for most of this stuff.

In CSB the cursed objects caused your Luck to decrease. In fact, I believe that they could cause the Luck to go negative and appear to be very large positive numbers. Thanks for the clarification about the damage display. I am not at all surprised. The "Flash" code is not too clean. I will see what I can do. The config.txt file contains the keystroke translations. Perhaps I can add a mode that prints these as the game is played to aid in debugging. PAul

You needn't get through this wall to avoid becoming toast. Before entering and taking the gem, close the first wooden door (the one nearest the source of the fireballs). Take the gem and run back to the door, which will absorb the first fireball. Then simply time your movements back to the stairway ...
