Re: Pos to slow down speed of CSB?
Your CPU speed should not affect the game speed. If you put yourself in small screen mode you will see several timers and counters. The Time should increment 6 times per second. Misc menu/ Deselect Double Size. If it is significantly different from 6 per second then something is wrong and you should...

I tried to write to your email but got rejected. So I will repeat myself here. ------------------ Very clever. If I plant myself inside the false wall that exits from the worm room in the basement and then attempt to go east or west I bump my nose on a very solid wall. But the message says there is ...

Re: CSB - The Movie
I should explain that any timing problems will not be seen by the movie-goer. They simply crash the playback process. I built a lot of error checking into the playback to catch any differences between the original and the copy. And, believe me, there were a lot of problems. Some of them were sensiti...

CSB - The Movie
I have finally succeeded in recording an entire game of CSB so that it can be played back. Before I managed to get the record and playback precise enough I had played the entire game three times without any saves. This is because there is no way to interrupt and restart the recording. You can imagin...

Re: Sound fix in CSB4Win
I chose the Atari version because I was familiar with the Atari. Moreover, I had some hardware documentation for the ST which made it possible to decipher some of the hardware-dependent code in the program. Moreover, it never occurred to me that the Amiga version was significantly different. It is o...

Re: Transfering characters
If you look in the CSB for Windows forum you will find a thread about "Is it possible to transfer characters" (or something to that effect). Someone discovered a rather tedious and indirect way to accomplish this. I do not plan to make transfer of DM characters a feature of CSB for Windows...

It is in the ST version. I just got there today. Putting
any object in the alcove will open the passage. So
you can keep the Vorpal blade to Dispell the monsters.

Re: level 1
Level one is very much an introductory level and all the keys are within a few steps of the doors that require keys. The grey keys are sometimes hard to see against the grey floor. Make sure you have enough light. The maps for DM are very helpful. If there is a door you simply cannot get through, te...

Re: One character
CSB for Windows works just fine on a Windows machine. Many people have written to say that they finished it without problems. I have won many times with a single character. The latest was with Petal. It really is not very difficult once you know your way around. I have had to play it so many times w...

I was forced to flee the worms in the starting area. But

Re: Is there anywhere i can still get dungeon mast
Have you tried George Gilbert's RTC? It is not EXACTLY the same as Dungeon Master. For example, the monsters are not confined to groups but can wander independently. But it is close enough to be called Dungeon Master in my book. The only problem I had was the slow startup which I helped by disabling...

OK...I fiddled with the CSB for Windows code and got an ASCII Dump of the prison. There are several portraits that have switches behind them which close that door. Re: Death Row
That is correct. You enter the area via a pit on the floor above. I finished the game easily without entering this area but I have not checked to see if some random teleportation might put a very valuable object there by chance. To determine this I would examine the cells in that area on the ASCII d...

You are the second person to be told that the Atari version cannot be played with the Winston Emulator. Believe me, it does work. But as I said before, the CSB for windows is an *EXACT* translation of the Atari game and works much more easily and quickly. IMHO. I used the Winston emulation many time...

You certainly can play CSB with the Winston ST Emulator. But it is slow and not too friendly, IMHO. If you really want to do it, write to me directly and we will make it work. prsteven@facstaff.wisc.edu Why not get CSB for Windows? It is fast and friendly. Of course I may be biased since I wrote it!...

TOADROT - The Lone Avenger
I just finished CSB yesterday. But with a bit of a twist. With a Resurected TOADROT all alone. I had done this 'one-champion-alone' play on DM but thought it would be a lot harder in CSB. It turned out to be not much harder at all. He held his ground very well against all the monsters. There were pl...

Re: Bugs in CSBWin 2.0 !
I played through the game myself. Just fininshed yesterday. The horn worked OK for me. Later in the game I simply used 'War Cry' to manipulate the skeletons into the teleporter. How do you know it did not work? I think those mummies will attack very persistently. If you use the horn many times while...

Re: Monsters hitting the wrong guy?
This bug has been found and fixed. It was caused by a missing set of parentheses. (Operator precedence + versus &.) In the process, I also found a bug that caused the same Champion to be hit each and every time. Fixed that, too. It was a simple translation error. It got so my fingers were doing ...

Re: Missing Map scroll?
No problem. The Atari version had no map scroll. I contemplated allowing you to get a (not very pretty) map by using the Windows menu Help. I could draw a map of the level using the standard Windows mechanisms. But I never saw the Amiga version and don't know what its map provided. Moreover, the map...

Re: Monsters hitting the wrong guy?
You know what? I sort of noticed that the wrong champion was getting hurt sometimes. But it never bothered me and I sort of forgot about it. I'll bet that it is a very simple bug. There is a table of attacking order and it must be rotated to match the player's facing direction. It might be working r...

Re: Diabolical Demon Director Dragon
A quick peek at the ASCII dump produced by CSB for Windows shows that this pressure pad needs to be stepped on only eight times to open the pit. Less than "A Hell of a number" ;-) In DMUTE it is the cell at level 3 (or 4 in DMUTE) (20,32) and the hex value 0406 (bits 7 thru 15). The 6 mean...

Re: Diabolical Demon Director Dragon
As I recall, there is a pit in this area (12,24) ?? that gets you back to the water even more directly. I traversed this area at least a dozen times before finishing the game. That dragon has to go, IMHO. What I think I did was to enter the imaginary wall and entice the dragon back into the area by ...

Actually, the Clones page still points to a very old version. If you go to the CSB for Windows forum you will find a announcement for version 1.0 and from there you can get a much better version. The things you are interested in are probably about the same but it would be better to have the more rec...
